A Naked Man 'Exposed' On The Charles: Newton Police Logs

A woman called Newton police to report a man having a very public private moment on the Charles River, and other Police Logs For this week.

NEWTON, MA — Newton Police stress that just because someone reports an incident does not mean that's the way it happened. An arrest does not indicate a conviction. And all suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Follow the Newton Patch on Facebook.

Friday, July 28

Ransacked: A Grove Street resident reported her home was broken into and ransacked.

Not PG 13: A woman called police to report that while she was canoeing along the Charles near the area of the Marriott Hotel, she looked toward the shore while passing the bend in the river and saw a naked man. She told police he was "definitely masturbating." She stated this alarmed her and made her upset. There were many children in the area canoeing and kayaking. She told police she immediately returned to the Charles River Canoe and Kayak and called police. She described the man as about 30, skinny, about 6 feet tall, with tan skin, with longer black hair and dark facial hair, and a lot of body hair and carrying a multi-colored cloth. Police canvased the area but were unable to find anyone matching that description.

Break in: A Washington Street resident reported a break in. Police did not release further details.

Sunday, July 30

Eggs are for eating, not throwing: Someone called police to report that while it was parked on Philmore Road, her Jeep was egged.

And then: While an officer was canvasing the area about the egging incident, someone came up to him
to report a rear window to his home was damaged. Police noted there was a small circular hole that may have been caused by a BB gun in it.

Smashed: An Olde Field Road resident reported that over the weekend someone smashed the glass on the outer front door to his home. Someone else reported a similar incident on that same street.

Lock your cars: A Varick Road resident reported their unlocked car was broken into while it was parked in their driveway.

Monday, July 31,

Keys are for the ignition: Someone called to report his truck was keyed along the driver's side while it was parked on Adams Street.

Break-ins: Someone at Powerhouse Dynamics reported that over the weekend their office was broken into and a number of items were stolen. A second break in was noted at the ground level of Newton Photonics.

Crash: An Uxbridge teen was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police responded to a report of a crash near the intersection of Needham and Christina Streets.

Stealing: Carole Merlino, 53, of Plymouth was arrested and charged with larceny over $250 for items she allegedly took from Wegman's. She was also charged with receiving stolen property over $250 from Anthropologie and Receiving stolen property under $250 from Free People.

Tuesday, August 1

No parking?: Someone walked into the station to report that his bike went missing after he posted it to the No Parking sign on Farquhar Road.

More bikes gone: An Oliver Road resident called to report two bikes went missing from her garage.

August 2

Stolen: Someone called to report he parked his truck on Foster Street while he was working in the area, when he returned to his truck he noticed his brand new Stihil backpack blower was missing from the trailer of the truck.
