Solid River Runner & easy to roll

About the reviewer Paddling 2 yrs Test environment Class II/III Spokane River, Clark Fork, MT; Rio Grande-Pillar Race Course, NM; Review Solid River Runner. Good volume, Tracks well, easy eddy in/out. Has good rails for surfing and can be a little grabby in swirly water. Over all stability good in bigger water. Easy to roll. Weakness: I have a size 12 shoe and I had to cut away some of the front pillar to make more room for my feet. Conclusion Over all good boat could use more volume in the foot area.

Prijon Creeker=Big water specialist

About the reviewer Paddling river runs and creeks over many years, many boats and a lot of fun! Test environment Class III-V river runs and creeks Review The Prijon Creeker is my replacement for my old faithful dagger mamba which was my glove for many years. I was happy to find a very responsive and stable boat in the Creeker which performs better as the water gets bigger. The Creeker turns on a die and is a real performer in steep tight creeks where there isn't much room for error. Conclusion The Prijon Creeker holds up to all abuse dealt to it and is suited to a paddler who knows how to handle a themselves in big water. The HTP design is strong and does away with the transom so you can carry more gear while still having a smaller boat.

Fluid Solo Expedition (large)

About the reviewer A novice paddler of limited ability and experience. Test environment Eighteen months in class 2/3 waters with a novice paddler. Review It is important to realize that this review is influenced by the fact that the Fluid Solo Expedition (large) was the incorrect boat choice for me. As a beginner paddler in Australia where there was no pro-shop to check out, the boat was bought on the internet, sight unseen. The price was excellent! You can see already that such an arrangement can be hazardous to all concerned. In blissfull ignorance I figured that the little streams locally were creeks, hence the need for a creek boat! The boat I bought is an extreme creeker designed for top paddlers in class 5 creeks! The main problems I encountered at 178 cm and 73-75 kgs was size and as a novice, a lack of ability. I was too small to boss it through rapids, and lacked the technique to finesse it through. Defensive techniques resulted, rail-roading was common. Further, in muscle terms, I was too weak to carry its amazing weight - 23 kgs without gear - for long! ...

very impressed

About the reviewer Have been using a "river running playboat" for 2 years, running grade 3s and easy grade 4s. Have used the Nomad to take on harder grade 4s. Test environment Grade 4 rivers around Scotland (and a bit in Wales). Review I have not tried many creek boats, so this is just my take on it with out comparing it to its competitors. The boat is super stable and stays on top of the water well. It also seems to resurface well and is easy to controlled if you ever get slightly "back endered" in a stopper. This came in handy as it has taken me about 10 trips to get my boof decent- that said I was not used to paddling longer boat and now I have the hang of it, its not hard. The boat is quick and the outfitting is great. I have the 08 model so stern access is not a problem. This boat narrows quite alot at the end and would not be great for anyone with really big feet or over 6 foot 2 or so as I do not have much room at the bottom. ...

Wenonah Itasca Supercruiser

About the reviewer In canoes before I could walk. Pretty much raised my family in the bow of a Moore Venom Racer (now being restored). Love flat water, big water, expedition, and family. Profecient in both canoes and kayaks, but far perfer canoes. Build, buy, repair, and paddle as a hobbie. Got white water out of my system before they gave it classes (ex: "that was a bad streatch" = Class 3, and "That was a suicide run" = Class 4). Test environment Flat water from local lakes to high mountain gems. From Lake Tahoe to the Canadian Rockies, to the Mid-west. Try to look for at least 500ac. and as few people as possible. Used to winter paddle, but working too many hours now. Review Thought it was about time to write a review on our Itasca. You know, before the 08 season gets into play. We’ve had it for almost 3 years. We have 16 or 17 canoes & kayaks. We’ve paddled many more. We like wilderness expedition, but rarely get the opportunity. We’ve paddled most western states, & some areas in Canada. Together my...

Reasnable speed and great stability in rough water

About the reviewer Husband & wife Test environment Open water, rivers and bays Review A boat that has great stability and reasonable speed. We have taken it out in a range of conditions from flat water, 6 foot swell and rough chop in 30+ knot winds. It handled the conditions well and never had us feeling like we were on the edge of its limits. I am a larger paddler and the larger cockpit is good for leg room. Seats are great and so comfortable. We have done 18km paddles and it has kept a good average speed of about 7/8 km h in comfort. I replaced a Perception double with this and the the HTP plastic is noticeably more durable and hardy marks or scratches with normal use. Conclusion Highly recommended.

Hero Review

About the reviewer Playboat most of the time & creek on the side Test environment North Fork of the Payette River Review We had ten kayakers on the North Fork of the Payette last Saturday. We had two Super Heroes, one Hero and only a little snow and ice. I have to tell you that the Hero has changed my paddling and increased my mental ability. My red Hero has increased my confidence a ton! I even ran two rapids I thought I would never be able to run. I had not even considered running these rapids but the Hero is stable and the other paddlers were great too.I knew I could count on my Hero and my paddling partners. Conclusion Thanks for making such a great kayak.

Super Hero: A river running and creek revolution

About the reviewer 10 year class V veteran and film maker Test environment After 11 months, 150 class V days, and my most significant year of whitewater ever encompassing Brazil, California, Colorado, Pakistan, India, and Bhutan; I present my 2008 Super Hero review. Review Super Hero Specs First Impressions: On February 9th, 2008 Jesse Coombs arrived with a couple of the first Super Heroes out of the Molds in Central Brazil. At first glance it struck me like the sleekest new ride at a car show: Smooth clean symmetrical lines over the deck and a high performance hull underneath. A quick hop in confirmed the JK brand wide attributes of comfort and ease of fit, but the generously proportioned 87 gallons of volume and the uni-shock bulkhead system take both the comfort and ease of fit to a new level: 5 minutes of shims and adjustments later, the Super Hero felt like it was made specifically for me. The following day, a couple more snuggings from the revolutionary back-band system and bulkhead, transferred hip tilt, to boat tilt, into an incredible carving sensation across a rain swollen high volume Brazilian roller coaster of a river....

Fast slicey huge-looping WINNER

About the reviewer 4th place Worlds 1995, 2005 Nat. Freestyle Champ, Bronze Medalist World Cup 06 Experienced competitor who prefers big downriver play like Gauley, Dries, and Numbers but also loves a deep little park-n-play hole with coffee nearby. Test environment Gauley, Rock Island, Ocoee, Salida, BV, Pueblo, Glenwood Springs, Grand Canyon, New, Pine Creek/Numbers, Russel Fork, Upper Yough, Lyons, Lawson, etc. Review This All-star puts speed, sliceyness, and looseness on a new level while providing the comfort, forgiving edges, and easy-rolling behavior all JK boats are known for. Fast enough for big flat waves like Glenwood or Dries at medium but still perfect for little spots like "North Shore'' and Hell hole and Salida. Top performance for Winning matches forgiving edges and roll-ability for everyone. Strengths - speed; AIR_TIME: whole-boat sliciness for cartwheels, Phonics, Mcnasty's and Orbits; Massive Loops Absolutely DRY - no screws to leak. Really comfortable, instant-adjusting outfitting. Weaknesses - hmm... kinda popular? Sizing - Jonothan Shales takes it HUGE at 135LBS, easiest cartwheels and learning tricks at 175 lbs. ...

Full-on creeking boof-machine with JK comfort and convenience

About the reviewer 20+ years of creek-boating in a multitude of boats, designer of the Java, lots of first D's Test environment Manns, Mill, Raven's, Green, Hendy, Suck, Bear, OB, Slate, Daisy, Bailey, Homestake, Gilman, White, Little White, etc Review This round-hull creeker is designed to boof where others flop. With continuous rocker under the seat for amplitude and the biggest, highest bow on it's size class it's so easy to keep your bow up - and even when your bow drops it will scoop back up till about 70 degrees of pitch. Relaxed primary stability lets you hold a lean when bouncing down slides and there are NO EDGES to trip you up - hull or deck! We've exaggerated the secondary stability so you can hang on that 45 degree lean till you get your brace under you. When you do flip, the rockered, round shape of the boat helps you get upright easy and fast. Outfitting is geared for creeking too: HUGE cockpit with molded-in thigh hooks for quick entry and exits, no screws to leak ever, and a shock absorbing...

Sweet playful creeker / uber-forgiving river runner

About the reviewer freestyle 90% these days but creeking is my roots and still a passion. Team Jackson Kayak, upper end for creeking this boat. Test environment Green, Raven's, Suck, Hendy, Bear, OB, plus high water CaneyFork, Gauley, Barrel Springs 15g - lots of days Review Take a Fun, exaggerate the primary and secondary stability, add a Creek-boat deck: voila - super- forgiving river-runner that plays too. Strenghts: hard to flip over - uncanny stability. Uber-maneuverable and Spins on a dime due to short length and planing hull. Sporty edges and confidence inspiring performance. Fits in the back of the truck w/ topper closed. Dry ride, shock absorbing bulkhead. JK comfort. Drain-plug just in case. Weaknesses: Tall cockpit area - short torso folks may try Sweet Cheeks 200 for a lift. Knee "Fit'' is most secure when seat forwards, yet I like the sportier feel of the seat further back for splats, spins, and surfing. Conclusion This sporty little boat is ready to take your FUN skills to the next class of whitewater yet keep you well entertained on the runs you like...

wow!

About the reviewer I have been kayaking for about 6 years now. I have had my fair share of boats - my last boat was a Kingpin 6.2, which turned out to be a bit of a shame. I have been to many great rivers, in fact I have only just got back from the White Nile which is when i decided that the Kingpin 6.2 was not for me - it's to skitty. Test environment Strong grade 4-5 Review To me the Fuse 56 is one of the best boats of all time. Not only does it have an unquestionablly good body but the ethics behind the boat are amazing. The hull is what can only be described as astonishing and if you're one of those people who likes playboating but also likes to sometimes run down the rapid without fear of the boat flipping then the Fuse is the boat for you. I dont care what anyone says, this is the boat of legends. If you want just a playboat then the Project or the Flirt med is the boat for you. However the Project wouldn-t be anywhere near the...

Excellent

About the reviewer Beginner/intermediate Test environment Kan, Tofino, Red Deer. Review I really enjoy this boat, the short of it is: it does anything you want it to, whitewater/play/ even pool. Very comfortable, no problems with quality control, looks sexy. The only con I can come up with is I found it hard to roll, in comparison with other similar boats (Jackson Fun series, Dagger Kingpin). It took a while for me to get my hand roll back in this boat. Conclusion Excellent boat, have had no problems, puts a smile on my face every time I use it.
