2015 World Paddle Awards - finalists announced!

Academy votes are now in, totalled with the Public vote, we are proud to reveal the three finalists for each of the seven WPA awards.

The finalists have been calculated based on the consolidated vote of both the Public and the Academy. For an explanation of the voting procedure click here.

In each of the award categories, one of the nominees will win The Golden Paddle – a paddlesports 'Oscar'.

Drum roll. In alphabetical order, the 'Top 3' finalists of 2015 in each class are:

  • Sportsman: Jiri Prskavec Jr, Rene Holten Poulsen, Sebastian Brendel
  • Sportswoman: Jessica Fox, Lisa Carrington, Teneale Hatton
  • Lifetime Achievement: Oscar Chalupsky, Steven Jourdan, William "Bill" Endicott
  • Foundation Award: Damien Rider, Dennis Newton, Martin Dreyer
  • Sports Junior: Jakub Grigar, Luca Homonnai, Sage Donnelly
  • Media Professional: Canoe & Kayak Magazine, CanoeSport Russia, Kayak Session
  • Industry Professional: Adidas Sickline, ICF World Championships Marathon Gyor, KayakPro
  • Academy Award: The WPA Academy will decide whether there will be an Academy Award this year or not, which is up to their discretion.

Congratulations to all our finalists! But also of course to all of the 2015 nominees who have set a benchmark for paddlesports achievement. All finalists will receive a certificate, which can be found here.

Under strict embargo, the winners will be contacted in December 2015 and invited to attend the ceremony in Sitges-Barcelona, Spain on Saturday 12th March 2016 when the results will be announced publicly to the world.

In uniting paddlesports disciplines, the buzz around this second year's Awards is representative of how far along our sports have come.
