Probably because it's a catamaran.  :smt003

Similar to the wavewalk.  Design looks to be an improvement on that.

Certainly attempts to blur the line as to what is and what isn't a kayak.

Interesting design.  I think the center portion could be much more streamlined, lightened & enhanced to make it more kayak-like.

It looks like it would have a lot of wind resistance. Also, doubling the hulls would almost double the water resistance to motion, I would think. I paddled an old double-hulled kayak at ABC about ten years ago, and it was difficult to get moving, but the broken down seat back may have been a factor as well. Is it a "kayak?" Well the first dictionary definition I find describes a light weight covered canoe, made of skins over a wooden frame, with a hole in which the paddler sits. Anybody using one like this? Definitions change over time, so if you want to call this a kayak, go ahead.

Actually, a catamaran can offer far less resistance but that is generally in a sailboat application.  I'd be really interested in seeing some 'test tank' resistance tests on this hull design vs. a standard kayak hull design with a given load - across the board for all kayaks.  Yeah, I know it doesn't take into account wind but it could give a great baseline to rate hull resistance of all the kayak designs as one, of MANY, purchase choice bullet points.

Watch the Americas Cup & you'll see why they went to Cat's.  The ability to sail faster than the wind is quite awesome in my book!

Good points there. Sail boats use the water resistance against the side or keel played off against the wind in the sails to generate a lot of forward energy. Another trade-off might be greater buoyancy of double hulls, depending on the design.

I think there is a lot of merit to be found in a double hull design, despite it not being "traditional".  Course, we are FAR from traditional kayak'rs now anyways so what's a little more twist to tradition.

I think it's fugly. Doesn't look comfortable either like riding on a barrel. What do you do with the fish you catch?

Interesting...

First off, the thing weighs over 100 lb... Yikes.

Looks like it'd be fun for freshwater fishing, but the high center of gravity could make things "interesting" in the salt. Even if the boat itself is stable enough to stay upright, you're really going to get tossed around like a ragdoll (rodeo cowboy?) sticking up high off the boat like that.

The "comfortable" paddling position may not be very efficient. Think beach cruiser vs. MTB or road bike.

I dunno, I guess it could find a niche in the market.
