While I agree 100% that Travis and crew make epic "films" - there is also currently a need to portray snowboarding for what it truly is = FUN.

The giant back country booters / the monster sized park jumps / the gymnastic style of riding / etc. are great to watch - for a few minutes - but they are driving the potential newbie away from the sport.

No different than at the peak of windsurfing when every image was of Robby and gang 40' in the air off the top of a 20' wave at Hookipa.  The average person that might have got into the sport, to cruise on a lake, only saw this and was scared away.

Video like these ALSO need to be shown to the average rider.

Sorry for the mini rant.

I think there is a lot of truth to a sport peaking. It's been the Ebb and Flow of sports for years. Skateboarding, then BMX, then rollerblading, then Skateboarding again. I see a lot more kids getting into skiing again. Some that were good snow boarders, but are finding new tricks riding wide twin tip skis in the terrain parks. They can stand out more, and the tricks look more unique with skis.
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

Is that photography just amazing and out of this world or what? Holy cow, some of the detail is absurd.
That little Mt. Bachelor ditty is pretty cool too. I like that.

Perhaps, but snowboard movies for as long as I can remember rarely if ever showed anything but extreme riding of some sort or another and yet still managed to attract new riders.

Yeah I've seen some amazing things being done with skis these days.  Snowboarding has dropped off considerably but it's still alive and well and I don't think it's going to go the way of rollerblading or windsurfing.  The good thing now is the stupid animosity between skiers and snowboarders is for the most part a thing of the past and at worst is mostly good natured.  Both sides are now pretty accepting of each other.

Snowboarding ain't going anywhere and I really never saw any......true animosity towards boarders but that just may be because of where or when I went or go, I don't know. This thing has cracked me up since I first saw it a couple years ago. Ahhhhhhhhh......mecca.

Ha ha ha.  All you can do is take these people with a grain of salt.  The lady at 6:12 was flat out lying about here opinion in implying that snowboarders have all these facial piercings and there are no skiers who do.

The only incident I have had was about 12 years ago when I took up snowboarding at the ripe young age of 42 (I took proper lessons).  Myself and girlfriend at the time (now my wife) were in Mammoth and riding the shuttle.  An older guy (around early 60's and his wife got on board and started going off about how much he hated snowboarders and when he that me and my wife had boards he made sure to know what he thought.  He called me a worthless asshole (before I had a chance to say anything to him) and actually called my wife the C word and his wife happily nodded in agreement with him.  It was really quite funny.  Other than that, I never once ran into any animosity or bad vibes.

I was on patrol at mammoth.  I've scene steve Klassen do things on a snowboard that I just shook my head at.  He was training before one of his comps one day. We closed the top for about two hours and we let him have it.  He was hucking back flips off the elephant tusk,,,it's a solid 80' cliff face.   Jeremy Jones, more currently, is pushing limits.  I've actually only scene him point um down a few lines,,,the same I just made two hundred turns on.  Haha, the guy is crazy good.  watch any tgr movie, he is ridiculous.

Side note: nathan Wallace ripped mammoth harder than any other human, ever....on skiis, ha

nuttin--had the pleasure of skiing jhole with both jones' and micha black 15 years ago--first tram, only tram--crawled into the mangy moose at 4pm--wish i had fitness of those days, these days

i ski alta more than anywhere, and like that there are no snowboarders--not because they are bad people, but because i like fewer people on the mountain. bumps? they cut em up tight, but i am not at alta for bumps, i am there for steep/deep and for soft, even heavy, crud. when there's not much snow and it gets bumped out, i climb for better snow and lines.

btw didnt watch the vid--i know a ton of little cottonwood locals, and there is no beef btwn boarder and skiers that I know--funny to ride a packed tram at the bird and see like 4 or 5 pairs of skitips!

Wow, memories. I did about 7 consecutive adult snowboard camps at Mt Bachelor. Such great times, experience and progress. I recognize so many of those, runs, hits and uggh, cat tracks.
Good stuff, fun videos.

Cool, I like Micha, that guy sure ripped.  I have some funny memories hanging with the boys up in cordova, ak.  Whitey, rod,  clint, and few others all rippers.   Jeremy could scare you just climbing, let alone actually dropping in on some of the lines up there.

Alta is awesome.   Wasnt alpine meadows a long time holdout?  I really like that hill.  It's hard to snowboard though.  It's a lot of traversing, not a lot of fall line stuff to lap.

I haven't skied two seasons, I went to put on my boots and that's a no go,,and my spatulas and kahunas just don't cut it anymore.  I had the gotama's but I seem to have left them at a buddies house,,but nobody is fessing up.  My son needs all knew gear,,sooo.  I'm going to the dark side this year.  I'm goin boardin!!!!!. I hope it's soft all year,,,nothing like slamming on hard pack while strapped in sideways,, ;D

It's the way to go for backcountry though,,way less weight and quicker skinning. Pop the board back Into place, and surf the mountain.  The Sherwin's, in mammoth are perfect for snowbarding, you can lap it twice in a day. Good times

Skiing and SB both are super fun.  The comments made by some skiers about SB are completely hilarious.

Once you transition to SB from skiing -> soft deep vertical will be a complete pleasure.  Much easier and more fun with so much float vs skiing - especially when the fresh snow gets a bit heavier.  For us soft snow = SB.  Hard snow = skiing.

Still have my SB race setup for hard pack using ski boots though - but prefer skiing fast once the snow firms up.  Gets very tough to do big cranking wide SB GS ripping when people are scattered all around you.  Back country is definitely the answer to go at speed - and always much more fun to cut freshies in the deep.

Since our mountains around Vancouver are only 20 min away - we have been using crampons and snowshoes to hike about at night.  So much fun getting away from the hustle and bustle when the lifts shut down and all is quiet and dark.  With some headlamps all is good and our dog gets major fun exercise bounding in the snow and across frozen lakes.

Always look forward to fun up in our mountains -> after doing some ocean SUP earlier in the day.   :)

sat next to micah like 20 yrs ago on a flight to slc (they were on rte home from a shoot in the dolomites)--he was thrilled he'd finally gotten health insurance via tgr!

hope that he's not in their lineup anymore doesnt mean he got injured.

it'd be nice to hear he aged out and has settled in to an active good life somewhere.
