Body found after boating accident at Chemainus Lake

The body of a 22-year-old Vancouver Island resident was pulled from Chemainus Lake late Wednesday afternoon after the canoe he was in flipped over and sank.

The body of a 22-year-old Vancouver Island resident was pulled from Chemainus Lake late Wednesday afternoon after the canoe he was in flipped over and sank.

He and another 22-year-old man, who is from Nanaimo, had set out for a day of fishing when their canoe tipped about 10:30 a.m. The other man made it safely to shore.

North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP responded along with B.C. Ambulance, Chemainus Fire Rescue, Cowichan Valley Search and Rescue and the RCMP dive team. Member’s of the dead man’s family were also at the scene, as well as Cowichan Valley Victim Services.

The survivor told paramedics that the pair was about halfway across the lake when the incident happened, CHEK News reported.
