Friday on the River 10/9/15

Post by fishr3 »

Launched from White Rock Park in La Grange around 9AM for an out and back trip. First fish of the day was a big cat that almost got away when it swam under the grass and rock ledge. Picked up a second catfish that looked like the first. Not sure if it was the same fish or a twin. Caught bass here and there. I tried spinner baits, crank baits, and jerk baits, but all fish were caught on a pearl curly tail grub jig. Most fish were caught near rocks. Enjoyed sweet solitude on the river, except for the mini airboat, the canoe party, and the flat bottomed powerboat. I guess this stretch of river is busier than most due to the close proximity to the TPWD boat launch. In spite of the traffic, I still saw plenty of wildlife. Deer, wild turkeys, and a bald eagle. I got out and walked a long gravel bar/island and saw an incredible amount of frogs in a backwater area. Looked like a swarm of grasshoppers. October is starting to become my favorite month for river fishing.
