This was a decent swell day at carmel beach a few years ago.

Fun for sure but south end was WAY nastier....worth the $10 on big days to launch at Sws rather than carmel IMO.

That's a good practice with no gear. is it common not to leash your paddles?

I am going to get at sws at around 6:30. I am staying at a hotel not far from the beach. I need to stop at an atm to get the ten dollars.

I had all my dive gear. Just stowed inside the yak. That's the huge advantage of yaks with easily accessible internal storage through a center hatch...

I personally don't leash my paddle for launch or landing cuz I don't want to run the risk of the leash getting wrapped around my neck if I eat it....

Good luck tomorrow Zach!

I'd pay more than $10 to watch someone try to launch out of Carmel beach tomorrow. It's gonna be smashing pretty hard fellas. There's nothing wrong with sws on weekends like this. Take it from a guy who has f*cked up on his share of surf launches and landings :smt044  There's plenty of good fishing right inside the cove if it gets rough later on. I had fun just messing around catching mackerel last weekend. There were tons of them in the cove. A two hook sabiki with an iron on the bottom can be a lot of fun. Wish I could go tomorrow, I'm gonna fish off the rocks with some coworkers. hope you have a blast and let us know how you do, Zach. :smt006

Hope you guys had a good time out there! When I checked out the ocean @ noon in Marina, it looked pretty nasty. I'm still l considering if I should go tomorrow because the forecast isn't very good.

I unfortunately couldn't make my first sws trip and accompany Zack on his maiden voyage... I had a different kind of first experience and got bit by a damn dog yesterday while working and the bite swelled up and bruised pretty bad. I'm out until the Kayak connection SC derby next weekend! Sweet video though and thanks for the heads up on the swell and the launch!!! 6' could be a little rough to say the least...

Sorry it has taken me so long to post my report.  A rod in my engine broke on the way home so i have been working on getting a new car.

The trip was fun.  I drove out to Pebble Beach and got there at 6:30 in the morning.  It took me a while to get ready as this was my first launch.  I was followed by a harbor seal for thge first hour and a half of fishing.  I went north of bird poop rock and fished in the kelp for about 2 hours and then moved to the south side of the cove.  I did not fish very well.  Only a couple rock fish.  I got caught up on the bottom and had trouble finding the fish.  I began to get a little seasick so i decided to head in at around 11.  I hope to get back out there soon.  Hoping that a new car doesnt kill my budget and time to get out on the water.  I saw a group out on the water sunday.  Hope everyone had a safe journey
