Sunova 10’6 Surf XXX Review
10'6 x 30" x 4 3/8" 158L

Rider Stats: Height: 6’3 (193cm)
Weight: 115Kg
Age: 29
Sup experience: 7 Years with 15 Years on Longboards

After testing the 10’6 Style XXX I was really looking forward to getting my hands on Bert’s new 10’6 Surf and putting it to the test. The conditions were 2-3ft with slight NE wind and a little choppy.
The 10’6 Surf was a little more unstable than another well known 10’6 but after a few waves I found the sweet spot on the board and had no trouble paddling around and onto waves. Once on the wave the advantage of the board being so twitchy was huge. It felt really nimble under your feet going down the line and when you did a bottom turn the board loaded up a huge amount of power so when you started cutting back it dug in and whipped the board around like nothing ive ridden before. No matter how much power I put into the cut back the tail wouldn’t slide out or disengage half way through the turn it just kept biting in for a really smooth powerful round house.
It trimmed really nicely just in front of the grip so you didn’t have to pump the board or put in a few strokes to get through a section, you just set your line and hang on as this made it just get faster and faster through the section. Once on the nose it felt really comfortable and stable but had a tendency for the tail to get a little loose when going through a steeper section on the nose. I was riding it with a 7’ dolphin center fin and M7 on the side so a bigger center fin would help the tail not slide out.
On some of the longboard type of paddle boards that I’ve ridden in the past they had a dead spot in the board where you couldn’t do anything until you move either towards the nose or tail, with the Surf you could maneuver it anywhere on the board and felt in control all the time.
Paddling around wasn’t a hassle at all and getting on the wave was a breeze and would be a great flatwater board and all round family board.
Comparing it to the Style I’d say that the Surf was a lot more agile and responsive when maneuvering the board and generated a lot more speed and drive through the turns. In the way of nose ridding I found that the surf was a little easier to walk the board but couldn’t hold the nose ride too long as the tail would start to get a bit loose where with the Style you can be up on the nose as long as you want. The Surf is more the high performance longboard that can be taken out in any wave height where as the Style is more the traditional log which it suited for smaller pealing waves.
Its very hard to find a board that can be a high performance surf board a flatwater board and a family board in just one board but this has ticked all the boxes with me and wouldn’t have any hesitation on recommending this board to the high performance frother right down to the beginner starting out.

Thanks for the review Freshie... it's good to hear from someone who has ridden the Style for comparison.
Definitely seems like an interesting board....

x 2 - it's hard to keep up with all the new boards being released so reviews like this are much appreciated
