are high end glasses worth the money, IMO they are overpriced.

However, every cheap pair of glasses I have the lenses pop out when I clean them. Trying to get salt/grease/slim off the lenses requires vigorous rubbing. My costa lenses never pop out, for that I pay 10x the price.

Yes my costa lenses are better then cheap lenses, but they are not 10x better. I have bought the $25 Penn ones at walmart, they are decent, but the lenses pop out.

It could be just me, but I tend to take better care of items that I know cost me more money. I have bought many cheap pairs that just got thrown around and scratched because I thought to myself; who cares they are cheap anyways. Went with oakleys and their lenses suck for fishing. Finally bought costas a year ago and never looked back. I take very good care of them and the clarity is worth every penny IMO.

You will spend the same amount on a good rod or a good reel as you will a pair of sunglasses. Say you go out 20 times and your glasses cost $200. That's 10 bucks per trip. Meanwhile, your glasses have helped you spot fish and reduced eye fatigue. Its worth it

I'm in the "you get what you pay for" boat on sunglasses. I've had a pair of Costas for several years now. Their customer service is great also, if you have to send them in for repair. I have 2 pair at the present time in fact. The old pair of Blackfins is at Costa now for warranty work. The silicone/rubber thing is separating from the plastic on the ear piece. After years in salt and sweat, that's not a big deal to me. They'll send them back in "like new" condition, or even a pair of new ones. Hard to beat that.

If you wear prescription glassses I recommend zenni optical. Just call/email your eye Dr. for your prescription info and you're good to go. I think I paid $20 for my glasses with clear lens and $52 for my polarized sunglasses. They take a couple of weeks to make and ship, but I'm 100% satisfied with the glasses and it's nice having clear and polarized with the exact same frame.

Bought 3 Penn sunglasses from WalMart in the past two years. Liked them but the lense coating scratches easily and it was like the salt was extremely hard to rub off. I have since then been using a pair of Oakley radar paths. A bit pricey but man are they comfortable, secure and not to mention the lenses are super easy to clean and the polarizing is spot on.

I would try on a few pairs and see which one feels comfortable for you

Whatever brand you go with get glass lenses. They hold up 10x better than poly with a coating. The high end glasses really do save your eyes. Its just like high end binoculars/scopes. I personally use Costas with the 580 glass.

Forgot, you can find them on eBay from authorized dealers for about 40-50% below retail. Also sierra trading post and steep and cheap. Nothing wrong with saving a buck when you can.

I have a pair of Orvis polarized that I picked up on sale for about $40. The lenses are really good and the polarization is outstanding. The only weakness is that they are not too dark. Great for trout fishing, not quite the best for the coast.

As a cyclist, I have gone through a bunch of different glasses. Oakleys are great, but they have become way too expensive for me. Optic Nerve and Tifosi are two sport brands that can be found at reasonable prices and they have some polarized lenses as well.

I have a pair of Native. I paid about $47.00 for them and they have a Lifetime warranty. They have Vent holes that help when its steamy outside.

I've found that Strike King seems to be the most durable for cheap ($30.00 or less) polarized sunglasses. They aren't vented so they do steam up if I'm wearing a buff but the lenses don't pop out every time I clean them.
Use the good ones like maui, costa, wx, Oakley if in calm water. The degree of difference in the polarizing is unbelievable. Cheap ones are for btb or just playing in the surf.
I found a simple test for how well the glasses will work for me is to look at my cell phone in portrait mode. The screen should be crisp and clear. Rotate the phone to landscape mode and the screen should go black. If I still see the screen then they will allow too much glare when I use them. Just an observation, don't know why it works.

My preference is Oakley half jackets. A full lens limits my peripheral vision. From white water rafting and snow biking in CO, to a one week class on rescue from heights (where sometimes upside down was the only way to accomplish anything) they stick to my head. The lenses are replaceable, and you can get an array of lenses for different light conditions. You can also get prescription lenses. Not cheap, but worth it! :horse:

Smith Optics- great sun glasses at reasonable prices. They make regular polarized lens and now have a Chromapop lens - those will run about the same as Costa's. Do some shopping on Sierra Trading Post- you can find good deals on all brands including Smith and Costa's.

Smith Optics Choma-Pop are AWESOME... but pricey.

I see no one has suggested Salt Life Optics... :-/ don't get caught up in the SL Stigma sometimes associated with people that own SL gear... The SL Optics are legitimate, professional gear. With Carl Zeiss lenses, you're covered... Superb sunglasses and affordable.
