New to Houston - fishing spots

Post by kylen315 »

Hi

I am new to the forum, new to TX, and new to Houston. Looking for a few quick tips on where to start fishing near cypress. I am used to fishing for pike, small mouth, and walleye so I have some things to Learn here. I don't have a yak yet but looking to get into one soon.

Thanks for your input.

Neighborhood ponds can be quite good for bass, bream, catfish, even crappie. The local creeks and drainage canals also have fish, fun on ultralight tackle

There is a public ramp at Northshore Park on Lake Woodlands. Just make sure to get there early on a weekend or it may be difficult to find parking.

I have put in for Lake Conroe at both the Stubblefield Lake bridge (free) and Cagle Recreation Area (not free).

You should consider the saltwater fishing that's available too. Trinity, Galveston, Christmas, Drum, and Matagorda Bays are all close enough to you for day trips or overnighters. Welcome to Texas.

Thanks for the tips. I think I am going to head to canyon lake or maybe the river for some trout scouting. Hopefully it will cool down soon.
