Infinity Blackfish as first race board for everything?
« on: September 01, 2015, 12:01:58 PM »
So I am in the market for my first race board and I am very intrigued by the Infinity Blackfish and I love the way it looks. I'm hoping to do all sorts of paddling and eventually train my way to some small time races and downwinders. Would the Blackfish be a good board for this? I've also been recommended the Starboard All Star series of boards. Can anyone compare the two? Any advice on length, 12'6" vs 14'? Any advice will help!

Thanks!

About a month ago was out on a DW and one of the race crew brought his Infinity Blackfish.  When we lifted it on shore - the board was extremely light.  It was set up in a single center fin DW configuration and had a single concave with an interesting crescent shaped tail.  Unfortunately only paddled together crosswind at the start to get a decent inside line before turning and taking off DW.  Did not see the gang until the end as it was one of those days where the stable M-14 planed on everything.  Wanted to try the 24.5 Infinity after but did not have time.

He also brought along a nice super light Blackfish paddle that weighed about the same as the SIC paddles.  Told him that it looked a lot like our SB HA with ABS - and he concurred.  The Blackfish and SIC are amazingly light nice looking paddles.

Another quick board is a Boardworks Eradicator.  A sponsored rider brought his custom 25 out on DW one time and he took off on it.  Really comes down to rider balance and strength to weight ratio.  Could probably ride a 25 DW but would probably get wet -> so for now stick to 26.5+ boards with our limited balance.

The SB Allstar is also a nice board and was fine in small bumps.  All of these boards have a slightly different concept - as well as different pros and cons - and trying in person is always the best option if possible.
