Good day despite the forcast

Post by partyman »

Most of the time we fish when we can not because conditions are ideal, today was no exception. All the tide charts were flat, crappy moon, 105 degrees,... Said what the hell and we took off to our favorite haunt. I had already told Golfpro that it was gonna be a hot grind but with persistence we should get rewarded.
We launched around 4pm the thermometer read 100 degrees outside with water temperature at 92.6 degrees. I was pleasantly greeted to a comfortable breeze and active bait fish everywhere. I began thinking that conditions were much more pleasurable than I had anticipated but still realized that I was basically fishing in a bathtub with zero tide moving and 92 degree water  .
We both headed in different directions in pursuit of our nemesis Mr. Fish! I decided after much luck with it in the past in this area that I would be throwing a Chartreuse Gulp swimming mullet on 1/8 jig head. Shortly into my journey a quite energetic 22" Red decided to impale himself on my hook and give me a brief battle before being declared my first victim! I ended up on the first leg of our expedition with a limit of reds to 27 3/4" and a 16" flounder as a kicker (I knew we were heading to fish the lights in Galveston so getting a trout and completing my "Texas Slam" was pretty much guaranteed). I headed back to the launch and awaited Golfpros return so that we could go fish the lights. He returned with his own stringer of fish and we headed to the next launch. I will let him post on what his journey was.
We had anticipated going to the causeway and fishing the lights under it but after arriving to higher than expected winds (go figure that  ) and waves crashing the boat ramp we decided that maybe Lake Como was a better option. Onward we traveled and arrived there around 930pm, we were instantly greeted to swarms of hungry 14" trout in every light. We each caught 20-30 dink trout going from light to light. I ended the second leg of my journey around 11:30 with 4 trout to 18" completing my "Slam" and making a happy man. We met back at the cleaning table, this was our combined effort
