Canoe helps clients navigate business waters

With a name that sounds like an outback excursion group, Canoe There specializes in video, photography, website and social media needs for businesses and nonprofits.

“If someone needs a brand overhaul, we can help. If someone is starting a new business, we can help from the very start, which is fun, because there’s no limitations,” said Dave Poyzer, who owns the company with wife Mariah. “Sometimes it starts with the need for a logo, then it branches out into needing a website, photographs and telling their story with a video.”

Poyzer spoke with The Des Moines Register about his business.

Q: What does your media production company do for clients?

A: We do a lot of photography, video production and Web design. I love creating things.

Q: Who are your clients?

A: Primarily businesses, small and medium sized, in the area and Midwest, but we will work with anyone from anywhere. We’ve worked with L.A. production houses needing a local video guy.

Q: What’s your focus?

A: To produce something that helps take a business somewhere where they want to be.

Q: How did you come up with the name?

A: A canoe can take you where you want to be, so the name Canoe There was born.

Q: What are some neat projects you’ve done?

A: I’ve helped produce TV shows for the Discovery Channel and some music videos. It’s like getting paid to go on a field trip.

Q: What do clients like about your work?

A: Some will overpromise and underdeliver, but we help businesses from the very start, managing their media components and making it enjoyable for them.
