DETROIT (AP) - Michigan and several groups say Belle Isle Park in Detroit will have kayak and canoe rentals this year and two launches beginning next year.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources, the Metropolitan Affairs Coalition and others announced the developments Tuesday for Michigan’s newest state park. The state assumed management of the park from Detroit last year.

Officials say one launch opening for summer 2016 will be on the Detroit River at Belle Isle Beach on the island’s north side. The other will be on Lake Muskogay near the northeast end of the island.

This year, people can launch canoes or kayaks from the beach. MLive.com (https://bit.ly/1LjiRwh ) says that the private vendor RKC Adventures will rent bikes, canoes, kayaks and paddle boards this summer.
