Too bad that retailer feels that way. Sounds to me like you like the Feel Free and he/she felt the best way to sell what they had was to criticize what you like.   :smt011

I greatly appreciate both of your comments...

The guy I called in Sac I talked to him about a trident 15.  I asked him about it...he said great things...I asked him about the other and he said they were slow and made in Asia...

I want a 13 to 15 at the most. The trident in sac that is 15 foot is 700 to 800. Give or take.  It had been used etc.

I live in pacifica so I will be trying to do a little of everything... Let m know

The feel free seems like a legit kayak...

It sounds like they don't sell FeelFree kayaks so are pushing you towards something they do sell haha.

If course...I just don't mind spending a little money on one...and if a couple hundred will make the difference or keep regrets from happening...I am okay with that...so I look forward to seeing what people will say

I know the feel free kayaks are much heavier...

I would see if you can find a place to demo them both. People can try to sell you on anything but it's all personal preference. Some like small and fast, others like big and stable, etc. The Moken is probably good to people who like that style of kayak, same with Trident.

Rbark,

So this is a great example of the feed back I need.  You said same style kayak as the trident or the moken...

How do you think of those in the same class...and what do you consider in another class?

Sorry, I think I wasn't clear. I have never paddled the Moken, so I don't know anything about it. I have paddled the Trident 13 a lot. I have a lot of great things to say about the Trident 13. It is an incredible ocean fishing kayak. But I don't know how similar or different the Moken is to Trident. I feel that the Trident 13 is a very balanced kayak that is hard for anyone to be disappointed in. I've heard a lot of people like Trident 15, but I personally did not like the footrests in it. Others are not bothered by it.

But that's just my opinion on the Trident line. I have no opinion on the Moken line, maybe someone else here does.

Come paddle mine. At least it will see some water soon. Working 96 hours a week leaves me no time or energy to go out  :smt009

Here is a thread that is generally before FeelFree came into the market, but generally valuable info IMO.

I used to own and paddled a Moken 13.  I think it's nice and stable kayak but a little heavier and slower than the T13.

Honestly, it doesn't really matter what a retailer or any of us say about either kayak. Ultimately, you will be the one paddling it and shelling out the $800 for it. Best bet, find places to demo both and see which one fits your body and paddling style the best. As RBark said, there are little things(like footrests) that one of us might dislike about a kayak that you might really like. It'd be a shame for someone else's opinion to steer you away from a kayak that might be perfect for you.

I've never paddled the Moken so can't comment. I used to own a Trident15 and have paddled a Trident13 many times and think they are both great yaks. Demo the models you are interested in, and decide what works best for YOU.

Good luck!!

I wonder what store in Sac would possibly talk bad about other kayak brands that they don't carry in store.  Just doesn't sound like something anyone would ever do.
