Lake Livingston Dam

Post by hillbillie »

I drive on the Hwy behind the dam usually once a week and often see a Kayak or two on the water. Are you guys catching fish and if so what kind? Trying to get some info before i take my son down there and try. All info appreciated. Thanks!

Have A Blessed Day!

I go below the lake Livingston dam about 2 time every year and always catch stripers, white bass and catfish.

I've had some good days and some poor days there, but when the white bass stack up there it can be pretty good. The catfishing is generally pretty fair too.

With the way the water has been dumping out of there all the fish are in Trinaty Bay! I've seen the flow rates the past few weeks and the highest I've seen is 46,000 CFS., right now it is hovering between 25,000-30,000. Anything above 5,000 CFS is not safe from a kayak IMO!

Wife and I would catch white bass, catfish and the biggest crappie I've ever seen.

last week the wife and I camped at Livingston state park. On wed we fished at the pier all night under the lights and caught 21 whites and 1 15 inch crappie that was fat as a pig. all caught on shad. I used a net and caught shad all night. I think we threw back at least 21 cats and whites that were under size. caught a lot of yellow bass that I also threw back. At about 3a thousands of shad came in and were all over the pier, fish were all over the place, right at 5 or so most of the shad left but you could still catch some in a net.

also two mornings I fished in the cuda at daylight at the rock point in front and on the right of the park about a hundred yards or so out and did real good on whites and keeper catfish. Take a small anchor if you fish this point the wind drives you out to the lake. The fish were all over the 5-10 foot depth from about 630 to 830a
