I noticed the regulations changed to allow kayak fishing starting early this year.  Anyone have luck in HMB?

I was going to try from HMB old pier on 4/26.  Got some new gear and eager to try it out.

Weather looks ugly.  If it were better, my crew would be out there too.

Da Bruddah (Michael Y.) and I are planning to go this Sunday morning.  Plan to go out in his Tandem.  I conditions are not favorable, will try poke poling from a kayak.  Not sure if the poke poling idea works.  But it is worth a try...  Just got a 14' bamboo pole from Gus on Balboa St., SF.    Plan be on the water at 8:00.

What's the consensus on favorable conditions?  My surfing buddy in HMB pointed me to this site for wave period, height, energy, etc.  He was saying short period 10s or less and wave height 3-4 feet or less would be OK.  But the wind is fairly strong at 10mph.

What do you guys think? If conditions are bad, I'll just float around near the harbor mouth.  Mainly want to test out some new gear (sonar mount, rod holders)

Not sure if we want to go out the harbor either.  Perhaps just fart around in the harbor.  Actually tomorrow looks pretty good.

Why not test gear at a local lake? Even the bay, is closer.

Sucks weather is not favorable. After testing my luck at Pt Arena last week.  I know my limits ate 5-6 foot swells. There were some rolling 10's when I was out. It scared me, being alone did not help.  I don't think I remember being scared of anything in a long time.   Even if it is doable I don't think fishing would be relaxing and fun.

I did good there 2 weeks ago.  The downside at Shadow Cliff is the boat rentals are open and the boat ramp opened to trailered boats.  There's gonna be lots of boats OTW.

Recently, bait fishing has seen more action at Shadow Cliffs.

I was looking at Saturday, but the winds even look harsh there too. I may head to south Stillwater sense it tends to be a little less winded  there.

Went out to have a look this morning at HMB old pier.  Clear sky, not many waves.  But the winds were killer.  Called it before leaving the harbor mouth, but still fun to get in the water for the first time this year!
