DANBURY TOWNSHIP – If you're looking for a place with a unique ambiance, to enjoy a glass of wine and have a one of a kind pizza baked in a wood-burning brick oven, there's a place in Marblehead that has just what you're looking for.

The Canoe Club Wine Bar and Gallery, located at 5831 E. Harbor Road in Danbury Township, has been serving international wines, pizza made from a Forno Bravo Brick Oven from Italy, salads and Panini sandwiches for nearly four years.

Owned by Mark LaGrange, who designed the wine bar and gallery himself, the Canoe Club's setting is unlike any other in the area. The space features a re-purposed canoe hanging above the full-service bar, wooden oars, buoys and other vintage nautical items.

Patrons enjoy wine and pizza at the Canoe Club Wine Bar and Gallery on Monday evening. The restaurant is located at 5831 E. Harbor Road in Danbury Township.

It's become a place where place where friends can meet, drink, dine, talk, enjoy life, feel comfortable and be with others who value a sense of neighborhood.

They serve handcrafted, from scratch authentic naturally leavened wood fired pizza, fresh imaginative salads, and signature wines for a relaxed come-as-you-are experience.

General manager Cortnie Glovinsky credits the unique setting, menu and service to its success to The Canoe Club's success.

"I think our atmosphere sets us apart," Glovinsky said. "It's a great place to relax."

Canoe Club kitchen manager Jason Borgio prepares a pizza for customers, which will be cooked in a Forno Bravo Brick Oven from Italy.

The Canoe Club serves many international wines, giving customers something different, as well as craft beer and handmade specialty cocktails.

Glovinsky said she believes the top-notch service at the Club also helps set it apart. Many of the staff have been there for a majority of its existences and are experts at their positions.

An impressive addition to the wine bar is its large art gallery, featuring hundreds of pieces from local artists. From photo canvasses, framed paintings, wood-works and glass pieces, many customers sip wine while admiring the artistic creations during their visits.

Also situated in the gallery is a space for live entertainment, including a baby grand piano which will be implemented this summer when a pianist will play on Friday evenings.

The restaurant hosts live entertainment, usually acoustic music and jazz, every Sunday from 6 until 9 p.m. They also host wine tasting every second Saturday of the month.

"We use fresh, local ingredients, and organic when we can," Glovinsky said.

A signature cocktail Glovinsky said expects to do well this summer was the "Vintage Lemonade," made with blueberry vodka, lemonade, 7UP, fresh blueberries and a secret ingredient.

"We don't want any one to know what else is in it," she said.

Monday's special is a free pizza with a purchase of a bottle of wine, while Tuesday's feature is the Canoe Club's Margaritas for $5 each. Wednesday's special is a Templeton Manhattan for $7, which Glovinsky said have been selling very well. They also have wine specials each weekday, with select wines for $5 per glass, she said.

The Canoe Club, located at 5831 E. Harbor Road in Danbury Township, features a full-service wine bar, restaurant, gallery and three-season patio space and is open daily at 4 p.m. year round.

As for now, the staff is gearing up for a busy summer season. Soon the tables will be out on the patio, for customers to enjoy their meals and wine outside in the warm Northwest Ohio summers just a short drive from East Harbor State Park.

"We're ready to get started," Glovinsky said.
