Just had some Tweak by Avery Brewing Company.
Phenomenal beer!
Think of espresso on steroids coming in at an astounding 17.81% ABV.
Aged 4 months in bourbon barrels with a heavy coffee note.
This is how beer is supposed to taste.
Try it. You will not be disappointed!!!!!

Sounds more like a Barley Wine.    I wonder what type of yeast they used to get a fermentation to survive that high of an alcohol content.
Sometimes the fish isn't the only prize.

It came in a cute little 4oz pour too.  :smt044

I'm not a fan of barley wine. Don't know why. I'm just not.
I was a bit worried it might be along those lines of flavor but it wasn't.
I was also concenred it might taste like their Beast Grand Cru Ale (12%) but it didn't.
The Beast is heavy with molasses and spices. The Tweak has much better flavor IMO.

Why not drink espresso if you want espresso taste or bourbon if that's the taste you're after.  Beer should taste like beer!  A little bitterness and some hops and malt is what beer is all about.  I'll be drinking Stone's "enjoy by 2/14/25 IPA" during the game.  Nothing beats a fresh hopped IPA!

Hmm....
I guess I'd try it, but I'm kinda with Martin. Beer is supposed to be a balancing act between the malts and the hops. I'm not a huge fan of beers that are extreme one way or the other.

Any home brewers in here? We should try for a homebrew/fishing get together. I have a 5gal keg I can loan if someone needs one. If we were to do an event like this. Just an Idea. I don't know how it works here.

Once upon a time there was 50 gallons fermenting with a funny airlock…

I don't think i'd like that beer. Also curious about what yeast they used for the ABV. Unless they just upped the beer with some pure ETOH. Even if it's good, beer is beer, and that's…not what i'd call a beer….

Tote:  Here's the definition of craft beer.  Nothing is mentioned about espresso or bourbon.
Definition: Simply put, craft beer is beer not brewed by one of the big "mega-brewery" corporations. More often than not, when the phrase craft beer is used, this is what it means. However, it is a rather imprecise thing to define something by what it is not so let's take it a bit further.

The Brewer's Association in Boulder, Colorado defines craft beer as beer made by a brewer that is small, independent, and traditional. This sums it up rather nicely and creates for the association a way to talk about what they're talking about.

Seriously.  I suppose they could have iced out some of the water, regardless, that's a bunch of alcohol in a beer. Most of the barleywines I've had come in a few % under that!
