Not really a big deal.
I was reading on a spearfishing forum about people holding their guns around the bands, when fully loaded, while diving.
I do it and there are a ton of pics on the internet showing others doing it. It seems comfortable that way; holding the gun mid barrel while diving.
But then I was reading about misfires and accidents. Misfires even when the safety is on and the trigger wasn't touched.
Then I saw some brutal photos of what can happen to the hands if this might happen.
Why not have a handle to hold the gun in the same balanced manner?
As long as it doesn't interfere with the  bands or running line I think it would be OK.
So I added one.
I like that I can fire the gun "shotgun style" now without having to worry about interfering with the running line. I can tow the gun so it is perfectly balanced without holding onto the loaded bands, and it gives me more areas to grip the gun when I need to move it around.
Since the line loads on the side it isn't in the way.
Bent piece of aluminum, 2 screws, 4 lock washers, two cap nuts, one rivet.
I plan on putting a metal pad eye where the screws are on the outside of the handle as an attachment point for my float line. I just don't have one on hand.

Looking good.  Thanks for sharing Mike.

Clean safety mod and a good idea at that.

What a great idea.  Keep us posted on the results with some fish pics.  Small cut out on the handle, slight bend of the tab, and your bottle opener on hand for the after dive cold one lies...I mean stories :smt005

Works great, but if you hold it when you shoot you'll have to adjust or else your shots will be high.
Ask me how I know.

Ask me how I know.

Why would the shot be high? Does the handle interfere with the line?

No. if you hold it like a shotgun when you shoot, like I did, you will not be holding the barrel level hence the shot will be high. If you shoot single handed there will be no problem.
