Have managed two trips so far, a super windy day on Shasta (Jones Valley looks terrible!) for spots/smallies and a bonus crappie, and a Thanksgiving morning river session.  Happy to say the mojo is truly strong with this one.  :smt001

Really happy with the improvements to the Mirage Drive, much smoother and increased efficiency.  The seat is awesome, keeping it in the high position I didn't feel the least bit tippy, even in the current.

With two trips out, it was time to start drilling holes.  :smt001  Luckily not too many, as it has several through-hull fittings factory installed.  I found a Lowrance Elite-4x HDI for too good a deal to pass up, and got it installed last night.  The Lowrance-ready transducer mount was a breeze, simply unscrew from the bottom of the yak, use a single bolt to attach the transducer to the plate, run the transducer wire up the scupper and screw the plate back on.  The transducer cable then runs into a through-hull fitting inside the yak, then pops up through another fitting into the gear pocket.  The power cable also runs down through this same fitting, using the two-wire grommet.

I'm not a fan of tracks or rails, instead running a Ram mount inside the cargo tray.  Two holes, screws/backing plates (with a little silicone), and its done.  Nice and clean, and the Ram mount folds flat inside the tray when the head unit is removed.

Tonight I'll get the battery wired up, then on to the downrigger.

tight lines!

"I'm not a fan of tracks or rails..."

Can I ask why? I'm thinking of installing some Gear Trac in the side trays of my Outback, mostly for mounting my new GoPro. I've heard nothing but praise for those rails, so I'm curious to hear why you aren't a fan.

Beautiful new boat, by the way... Jealous of your lazy boy seat. My back screams at me after a 6-8 hour fishing session in my Outback...

Ben, nice rig. So any difference with the new drive... any noticeable mph differences?

Regarding tracks and rails I have installed them on prior boats, but just never found myself using them.  If I'm going to mount something then I've already picked out the location and won't be needing to slide or adjust it around, so Scotty flushmounts and the single Ram ball are all I install.  I've picked up the GoPro Jaws clamp, which is awesome.  Clamps super tight to virtually anything and allows easy changes to different shot angles.

Just personal preference really, I spent a few weeks on a couple of Jackson's over the summer that had rails all over the place, being able to swap the rod holders around was handy when I had my kids in the yak, so I can see times where it could be useful to some.  Hmmm, kinda rethinking things now, a pair of small tracks right behind the forward holders could be useful for when the kids come along.  :smt001

Speed wise, I don't think it's enough to pick up MPH, but the effort to move is reduced, more of an 'endurance' over 'quickness' feel to it, if that makes sense. Good stuff!

I'm wondering about the seat,  can you set side saddle to access stuff behind the seat?

Yes.

Or practice spine twist posture at yoga.  :smt003

I'll give side saddle a shot, haven't tried it yet on this one.  :smt001
Got the battery and Lowrance cable spliced/soldered/shrinkwrapped with quick disconnects and everything powered up.

Good stuff. Thanks. I'm glad to hear it was more of a preference thing than any complaints about the rails themselves.

I went ahead and ordered a couple of the 8" tracks to install right behind the moulded in rod holders in the back of my outback. They'll hold my GoPro and possibly a couple Ram rod tubes (for storage only).

Took care of a few more things over the weekend, first up is the Scotty Laketroller install.  Used the Scotty Flush Mount #244 and installed it in the right-side gear tray.  Nice and clean, fits like a glove with just enough room to clear the seat, sits high enough to fully 'seat' in the mount, and readily accessible.  Also allows use of the stock front rod holder for actually running the 'rigger.
