No oil consumption with my 2011 Outback.  It's the four cylinder with a timing chain replacing the belt in previous years.  I think it takes 5w30 oil.
he's talking about the newer fb/fa engines which have better fuel consumption. You have the older EJ engine.

my fb engine in my impreza doesn't burn oil but majority of horizontally opposed engines will somewhat burn a little bit of oil.

the 6 cylinder EZ engines are damn nice but gas mileage is meh

I had 2010 OB, right now have 2013 - neither of engines has this issue.

I know that this issue is common for some Impreza 2.0l engines, but .... oil intervals are almost 10K. i change oil every 5 to 7.5K

Friend bought 2015 car and I like that climate control is standard for premium right now - A/C was weakest link on 2010-2014 models (many ppl reported not cold enough)

I have a 2005 outback.  I have routinely carried  my adventure and revo at the same time.   I took them to Lake City Colorado and back without incident.  To create a larger space on top I took two one inch iron bars, painted them then strapped them to the stock rack with stainless hose clamps and wrapped it with duct tape.  It sits just a little higher than the stock rack so I don't worry about overloading the top.  The loading area is now 53 inches wide.  This will be my fourth year and no breaks or damage to the roof, bar or straps.   Cost was under $100.00  for everything.    Good luck Ken.

Great question ken..
Thanks everyone who piped in...especially igor and skunkasaurus..

Really appreciated the insight and guess I need to search subaru forums to get better educated...I was considering jumping on a 2014 on CL to replace my 09...never heard abt AC strength issues.
Guess Ill take a look at the 15 but maybe I'll wait till those hit the used lists..
I like my 09 but I don't like the rear hatch privacy tarp thingy...it reveals the back 1/3of trunk contents..I know that's a relatively minor flaw but the dumb design is annoying.

How do you guys like the paddle shifters?...I think it's more intuitive to leave shifts on gear shifter vs steering wheel.
Thoughts???.

Look at 2015 premium - climate control is standard and it's huge improvement for comfort.  I know couple ppl who bought 15 year OB and they are happy.
I'm waiting for Exiga to finally hit US market

Good luck
:)

I have a 2011 Outback and will agree about it having weak AC.
I only use the paddle shifters for engine breaking on a downhill.  I think the CVT is programmed well for everyday driving.

Hey Ken Jan, I have a 2014 Subaru outback . if you are only concern about the cross bar spread of being close together (24 inches for 2014) just buy your self a Rhino - Rack T Loader from Amazon and that should solved your problem. that alone will give you 58 inches spread from aft (second cross bar) of the cross bar to Rhino Rack. I load my 2013 AI with no problem issue ..   Don

Just saw this. Does the Rhino Rack T-Loader prevent the back from opening? Can it swing down or something or do you need to remove it entirely?
May the fish be mighty and the seas be meek...

I just bought the 2015 and love it so far. Haven't addressed the kayak transporting yet tho. I'm thinking one J rack and one flat loaded if I want two on there. The new ones look far enough apart tho. Apparently they also make adaptor fittings so any thule yakima accessories can be use on their built in cross bars. Haven't had time to really check it out yet. I'll post up my R&D when I get time to look further into it.

FOR THE 2005 THAT I HAVE , I REMOVED THE FACTORY CROSS BARS AND INSTALLED THE YAKIMA TOWERS AND BARS... I DID THIS MAINLY BECAUSE WITH A SIMPLE HEX WRENCH, THE ENTIRE RACK COULD BE REMOVED (AND ANYTHING ATTACHED TO IT..)

Because he is short, and owns a Subaru.
Live your life, the way you want to be remembered. Don't have any regrets, we only get this one dance to make it count. Start at your eulogy, and work backwards.
