Members of Sanibel Fire & Rescue clean their vessel after transporting a body that was found about 400 yards off the Sanibel causeway on Friday.

The body of Andrew Barber—a kayaker who went missing the night of Dec. 12—was found in the waters of the Sanibel Causeway Friday.

Around 2:44 p.m., a Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission officer found the body, said FWC spokesman Gary Morse. The body's identity was confirmed by Morse around 6:41 p.m.

Barber went missing last week in the area. He and another man were out when their boat overturned. The second man swam to safety, but Barber did not.

After nearly two days, the Coast Guard suspended its search for Barber Sunday night.

Barber's death comes on the heels of another water-related death on Sanibel. Chad Winter, 19, of Illinois, was found dead Tuesday after going out paddleboarding. Authorities believe he may have had a medical condition that lead to his death.

The Coast Guard and several emergency agencies are searching for a man who went missing after his kayak overturned in San Carlos Bay
