The body of a man who went missing after the canoe he was in capsized Sunday afternoon has been found.Video: Body found at Lake ManawaTwo men tried to swim to shore after the incident, but one man never surfaced. The survivor, Benjamin Ferguson, 36, made it to shore after about 30 minutes. He went to the park ranger's house to report the incident.“(It) took approximately half an hour to get from where he fell in to my house. He had to break through the ice. I observed cuts, he was bleeding from his arms and legs from where he broke through the ice,” Lake Manawa Park Ranger Nick Rocca said. “I think in this case, if we weren’t home, it would not have been a good situation for this individual.”Offutt Air Force Base Public Relations confirmed Ferguson is a master sergeant assigned to the Air Force Weather Agency. The man whose body was discovered Monday morning was an active duty airman, officials confirmed, though his identity was not released.Ferguson was reportedly fading in and out of consciousness with extreme hypothermia, according to Assistant Council Bluffs Fire Chief John Wickman."The canoe overturned, they both started swimming to shore. One couldn't make it and went under,” Wickman said. "Extreme hypothermia took (Ferguson) about 20 minutes to a half hour to swim from when they went in, get out of the water and make it to the ranger's house so he was in and out of consciousness.”Ferguson remained in the hospital Sunday night as a precaution. He was reportedly in stable condition.After several hours of searching, someone spotted the canoe on the other side of the lake -- far from where it capsized.“It’s not like a river where you got the current taking you but the wind above will take it and move it and shift it someplace,” Wickman said.The park ranger and rescuers brought buoys to mark the spot and determine possible drift patterns that may lead them to the victim’s body.By 11:30 a.m. Monday, crews had recovered the body of the missing man.
