Loving my 9'1 Allwave
« on: October 18, 2014, 01:41:05 PM »
After a great deal of analysis, I decided to pick up a 9' 1 Fanatic Allwave. The board looks sturdy and much more attractive than my flywave. The pointed nose and thin tail give it a surfy look. It weighs a little over 24 pounds, not particularly light but with its ledge handle manageable.

I took it out for a couple of sessions and caught a bevy of chest high waves. I staid out until sundown one night I was having so much fun. Its pointed nose makes it easy to get past breaking waves. It turns on a dime . Of course, it is stable even for a relatively short board.  It is very fast on the wave. I was able to carve and get in front of the waves. It is ideal for floridas mushy waves.

Props to Wenzel and team  as well as Jim k on a great product. Jim k was helpful, spending a lot of time on the phone with me and overcoming a minor logistical problem. I am 6'1 200 pounds and a beginner surfer but already wondering whether I should have gotten the 8'11. But since I paddle out to a reef offshore on choppy days, I opted for the longer board.

Great color in your report....Glad you're happy.

I've been trying to convince my brother to buy one of those by giving him garage storage gratis (and my OCCASIONAL use also).  He's not biting yet, but give me time.

Does your board have the mast insert for the windsurf option?

Yes both my fanatics, the flwave and allwave, have a mast insert for windsurfing though I have never used it. But I would like to look into the cost of one. I just bought a ke nalu paddle from Jim so I am already breaking my piggy bank.

I agree with your opinion of the AllWaves.  They are great boards and really easy to ride.  I have the 8'10 and really enjoy it when I still ride it.   I'm interested in the 8'6" that is for sale in the classifieds here on the Zone, but I have already bought two boards since August and well...you know.

Kernal

The AW has a mast insert and for a wave sailing application the stock fins work real well (for me a big guy)
Let me know if I can help you or your brother with AW

I know it's a minor deal, but the ledge handle is awesome.  I really miss having one of the 7'11 I ride mostly.  Makes it so much easier to lift and carry your board.

Thanks Jim....He's a moving target at the moment...My next step is to get him to test drive a model with the windsurf capability....
