Fin for Riviera RP 14x27
« on: October 29, 2014, 05:52:52 PM »
I broke my Riviera SR fin. When it was one piece it was stable, a little slow to turn, getting 10 strokes a side when my stroke was good (still beginner/intermediate). So I need a new fin for small surf, rec races. I was considering ordering a gladiator pro but rememberer this board has a good amount of rocker in the back. Here's what I had:

I want to go smaller but not too small. Suggestions?

Ninja, Would be my suggestion for your water in Florida. Ninja holds like a larger fin but feels like a 8" fin and can surf with. Gladiator Hybrid is smaller but holds like a larger fin and is harder to surf with. Mahalo, Larry

Hi Larry,

What might you recommend for a 404 Zeedonk in the ocean?  Thanks.

Hi Larry,

What might you recommend for a 404 Zeedonk in the ocean?  Thanks.

On a 14' Zeedonk, 2 choices for open ocean. Bat fin or Gladiator Hybrid. The difference would be where you need the most stability. In tall swell movement the Gladiator Hybrid because of tip hold as you move over a swell. In a flatter swell roll the lower depth but same lateral hold would be a  Bat that has faster glide on the 14 because of fin depth. This applies to 14' only because of tail rocker. If you were requesting a fin for 12'6" board which carries more rocker then the fin request for the same ocean condition it would be a Gladiator Hybrid because of tip hold in that condition.

Since we're on the subject, what replacement fin would you recommend for my 10'10x28.5 Pau Hana Minisport?  Using it in mostly flatwater and light chop in the ocean here in south Florida.

I can speak from experience on the Bat fin.... it works quite well. I have been using it on my 404 Zeedonk Green Label for 2 summers now. Gulf of Mexico, intercoastal, Lake Michigan. .... :)
