show us a pic of the entire lure set-up...nice ugly fish too

Sliding slinky weight set-up, I use this with just about everything now in the river, lose a lot less weights, feel the bites better, fish are more likely to take it because they don't feel the weight.

When using two flies, slinky weight on swivel (anywhere from 2 shot, up to 7 shot depending on current and how rocky bottom is), line passed through eye of swivel, 1/4" plastic bead, (adds color plus protects the two swivels from rubbing against each other), barrel swivel, 3' of 8 lb fluorocarbon, UGLY FLY, tie additional 3' feet of 8 lb fluorocarbon to hook of ugly fly tie on whatever other fly.

Idea is that as fish are sitting in the riffle, seam, or hiding waiting for food to float by, they see the bead, then get mad at the big ugly fly, then take the fly they like when it passes by. I am sure those two salmon were just mad at the green bomber, it is a popular fly for north atlantic salmon according to my father-in-law but I hadn't tried it until he gave me one, guess it works on king salmon! I lost my only green bomber later in the day Monday, should have re-tied everything after two fish, had two other hits but I am sure hook wasn't sharp anymore and next time I snagged didn't take much pressure to break off.

Here is picture of set up with rubber legged bug, I have caught several fish on this set up, including some nice trout.

I also use the same slinky weight set up with roe and nightcrawlers, one hook only 3' of fluorocarbon leader.

Nice setup Bryan, did you find the green bomber local ?
Remember to practice safe knots, because big fish don't just break your line, they also break your heart.

Found these at The Fly Shop - "green machine" not the same but close, going to try with my fly rod also, if I get one on should be fun.

Tim,

Didn't hook up on fly rod but as soon as I went back to spinning gear fish on, I was no match this time, a lot of 30 - 40 lb ugly/mad fish up here now, heard that while DFG was checking for microchips/tags they found a 60 lb fish in battle creek recently.

Too expensive to keep losing store bought fly's, have to learn to tie my own or figure something else out, did try going to 12 lb test but think the fish could see line  or it didn't have same action, no takers.

Bryan
