Anyone try one? Thoughts? Seemed like soloshot 1 had a lot to be improved upon. Did they?

We just received an order of them at our shop...was bit of a wait since they are really backed up in production...

This new Soloshot 2 is vastly improved...solid build...nicely put together...
I've got mine paired up with a Sony AX100 4K...all dialed in and calibrated...waiting for a good opportunity to utilize it...;-)

If you use the Soloshot to take video of yourself using your GoPro,..  does that make you a narcissist?   :o ;D

wardog:

does the new solo have an improved method of pairing the TX and the RX?  imo, that was the biggest flaw with the first one, and i found it so frustrating that i stopped using the thing.  centering the flashing light from the water did not work right once for me, and doing it on dry land was a problem too.
or maybe you have some advice you could offer?

I got on board w/Kickstarter waaay back in summer of 2012. After a little over a year of heavy use sold the SS1 on Craig's for $200 and pre-ordered the SS2. Took WAY longer to get than the release date, but they threw in the tripod bag so that was cool. Plus Kickstarters got a discount. I've been stoked on the company from the start. Great support(ask for Kristen) and the thing works great. The SS2 is def STRONG tracking wise. The new vertical drum centers you even better. Just DON'T move the thing(base) after pairing and calibration. In my newest vid(NJ Nor'easter) the base/tripod somehow shifted and I surf outa frame a bunch towards the end of the session. Mighta been from me switching up camera bats. A nice feature is the ilock capability. I secured it to the fence atop the bluf at Point Judith, RI. Not to mention that you can now pair it at the bottom of the bluff and it will track you from the top.

The new vertical drum centers you even better. I put these frame grabs together to demonstrate the improved framing.

Surfercook, is that you or someone you know playing the music for your vid?

Alrighty then...took me a couple of attempts to get the SoloShot2 camera controller to play nice in the sandbox with my Sony AX100 4K...

The latest swell in these parts started on Sunday...the surf was too good to sacrifice waves with a learning curve until Tuesday...
I went to a quasi-private closed out beach break to experiment...
The footage had focus issues that day...too bad as I had some killer hits...but, it got better yesterday...however, was still not there...calibrated too early in the morning with low light...and, didn't reference the cheat sheet...;-)

I think that I finally got it dialed in today...in really weak 1 hit wonder waves...all 'cept for tripod leveling...
Using the stock SoloShot tripod...was too used to our Bogen fluid heads...but, I now have the horizon level figured out...toggling the Sony between auto and manual with a horizon sweep...

Starting and stopping the cam was never problematic...no RX/TX issues at all...just have to spend a little time getting the zoom and focus dialed in...

The vid clip is 14.5 mins...a bit long, as it was just not just fully entertainment...as I will be able to instruct our clients with my mistakes...
Cool dolphin cruisers at 5:29 and 7:14...made up for the weak surf...but, now I'm ready for the real surf season to begin...

Riding my 7'10" carbon Jammer...

Fun new toy...adds a different perspective...and, the robot takes a load off of our still photog...;-)
