GoPro has a good basic editing program you can use for free!  http://shop.gopro.com/softwareandapp/gopro-studio/GoPro-Studio.html

But if you want to be editing like a pro, I would give this a shot:

Complicated though...

If you have a Mac, iMovie is very easy and simple to use.

I have the GoPro 3+ Silver and think it kicks ass.

I have Adobe Premiere (pricey) and Movie Edit Pro on the PC but always end up using iMovie on the Mac (very easy). In iMovie, I learned not to export using iDVD. Resolution suffers with iDVD; so I export directly to .mov format. Some day, I will learn how to use Adobe Premiere and/or Movie Edit Pro efficiently, but I'm still in lazy mode.

You basically need to be able to:

Split video and delete scenes you don't want

Use transitions

Add music or text

And be able to export to a format that doesn't alter quality of original video

Most free or cheap video editing software do these.  Don't waste money on expensive software that you will only use 5 percent of its functionality.

I used to use the Gopro movie maker which was pretty good and offered a decent amount of transitions etc.

I did buy one of the more expensive programs, Cyberlink Power Director 12 and 13 and love it.  Even though there are a lot of extra features I feel it gives me the best chance at making a good movie :)

I got the Adobe Premiere out of curiosity and also because I got it at a tiny fraction of the cost. Just too many hobbies and not enough time.

Thanks
Guys for all the info. I actually pay monthly to Adobe for their bundle. It has premier . But i'd rather use a simple program so I don't need to learn a massive program. I pay 20$ a month for all adobe programs, just go on their website , I have the student/teacher version.
thanks
Ken

Try the Elements version then!  It's a lot easier and less complicated to use.

Yep,  I learned on an old version of Premiere, but to stay up to date is way too much money.  I use Sony Vegas/Movie Studio now, which does everything I need and more.  There are also tons of free programs out there that will do everything a beginner needs.

I like the gopro studio....when it works.it does everything I need, just not reliable.   Always crashes on me halfway thru a project, but it's free so....  Maybe it's my computer....
