Ready to Go

Post by gonefishin »

I have the kayak locked and loaded on my Track One rack. All my gear together in the backseat. Fishing rods rigged and ready by the front door. Even got my BFF's straps in the front seat ready for loading her kayak up on the way. Be heading out at 5 AM tomorrow for some salt therapy. I'm thinking Flounder but I would not object to anything with spots

A bunch of dink trout. . We were a bit late getting out on the water. A couple of people out with stringers of mostly reds, were just getting ready to go in. Started the day with top waters, with a couple of blow ups but no hook ups. tried a Catch 2000 also with no luck. Gulp under a popping cork, we got bites but nothing on the hook. Lots of reds up in the marsh but no takers. They seemed to be biting soft, a couple in the shallows we could see swim with the tail of the gulp in their mouth and then drop it. The guys we saw catching earlier, were using live finger mullet or shrimp. Moved out deeper where we saw bait pods and some slicks and I tied on my old faithful pink and white Speck rig . I also jigged an H & H Salty Grub and picked up a few dinks. Worked 3 different slicks that popped up in water 3-4 ft. Dink Trout in all of them. So nothing to brag about but we had fun, made notes for next time and are planning our next trip. Pink and white were the colors we got the most bites on. We used 4 different lures plus Gulp through out the day.
Wind was about 5-7 MPH ene early then changed to sse later in the day, water was clear to about a foot.

I have caught all of my personal best Trout, Flounder and Reds on the Pink and White Speck Rig. Also killer on White bass in freshwater under a popping cork or trailing behind a chug bug. Maybe I should of used a Chug Bug yesterday? The Dinks were inhaling the Speck rig so bad that I couldn't save a couple of them, so I switched to the Salty Grub.
I used my top water on and off all day, kept it tied on at the ready. Other than a couple of blow-ups early on, no luck. Always next time.
