Ryan, Jordan, and I loaded up the yaks and dropped into Stillwater cove at high tide yesterday morning. Waves were washing up on the stairs, but we managed to stage on the cobbly beach and get in. We headed over to the west side of Fire Rock (the lone washrock south of Pescadero Pt). I landed a decent sized vermillion right off the bat and a couple of throw-backs. We focused west to south of Fire Rock settling on a hungry school of blues. We caught (I released) about a dozen in <10min before CDFW showed up to check our licenses and totally killed our roll. After that we could only catch mackerel. So we headed further west over to the south side of Pescadero Rocks for the rest of the morning, where it was slow. Ended the session with Chipotle burritos and headed home for some Serrano Altbier homebrew. Cheers!

total for the day..
Me: 2 rockfish and a couple of mackerel
Ryan: 4 rockfish
Jordan: 5 rockfish

Any day on the water that's polished off with a Chipotle burrito and homebrew is a winner in my book. Serrano Altbier ... that's sounds AWESOME !!!

i love sws but those party boats and pressure has been putting a toll on the fishing. we were out in a party boat last week and barely caught anything big in size and also in a kayak it's been slow. I hope that place doesn't turn into another capitola/santa cruz of rockfish :smt010

Got to meet Beer+Fish and gang on the beach as they were coming out and my buddy and I were setting up to go out.

We worked the kelp in the cove for about 45 minutes with no real luck, swell action seamed to be keeping the fish hunkered down.  So we moved past Pescadora and worked the 80 ft(ish) line north to south for about an hour.

The school that Beer+Fish was on had definitely moved on, fishing was pretty slow but I managed to hook up and land this 28.5 Ling...made for a good afternoon.  I was able pull him bottom bouncing with a 6oz Pline Silver Minnow (Greenish color) tipped with squid tentacles.  When I cleaned him up, found two small octopus in the guts...popped them in the freezer to use for bait on the next trip.

Cheers

SB
