still on the road,

will hit the ground running Monday morning …   :coffee2:

VA is closed on the weekends anyway,  at least the people we need to talk to are gone on weekends…

catch ya soon, and the date should be fine,,,

just getting vets together that soon may prove difficult,  usually we plan 2 to 3 months in advance, only recently have we been able to throw things together in a few weeks, but who knows,  worth a try…

I'll have forwarded a contact to "AdventuresWest",  has that been contacted yet?

Ya don't need me to go talk to them…

Ya know enough enough about HOW to represent…

WE do have insurance, and are of course an award winning 501c3 non-profit…

Let me know of any assistance you may need in letters for donations or permits, parking, day use fees fishing fees etc…

I do need a name for the body of water your choosing to fish ( Unless it's private land ) as I need to get a group fishing license for the vets from Fish & Game…

I still won't have contact with my contacts till Monday, so stand by on that, but feel free to contact your local vet service centers yourselves..  hard to say what I'm going to come up with, but I'm putting my feelers out...

Got my lines in the water…

We'll be lucky if we get participant vets this quickly, but who knows, maybe Redding has it together and it will happen that quickly…

One thing that really makes these events promote easily is a flyer,

Hojoman is the Master,   :kungfu

if you have the details,  PM Hojo, and he can convert this flyer to whatever ya need..

*Disclaimer…  not sure we can Guarantee a "KayakJack Flaming BQ Display…"

Hey Redding People!!!

I've got some hits on my side for contacts, but we need more specifics about what your tring to do on November 8th, if this is still the date…

Where is it going to be, any other details, and how many do you think you guys can handle?

Take a look at how many volunteers ya have.. approximate

take a look at how many extra kayaks ya have ( is Headwaters in on this…?)

and look at your venue,  if it's a small enclosed lake or pond, you can get away with less on the water ( volunteers) but if working a part of a larger body of water, then we need more on the water to keep everyone close.

Also, I need to know where your thinking of having the event ( body of water ) as to get a group permit from D&FG, this will be a new office and this usually takes a bout a week to 2 weeks to do,

and if we need to push this back a bit, that may be what we need to do…

If you can get me this info, The VA will shoot it up the flag pole to see if it gets approved and then they will come play with us…

But first, I just need to know when and where and how many y'all think ya can handle?

Don,

Will know this evening about the lake, 110 acres, average 8 - 10 foot depth, bass, crappie, bluegill, catch and release.

Gated community, on board meeting agenda tonight, response has been very positive. I will be attending and address the board.

There is beach sandy area for launch, good shallow area for assisting kayakers and instruction, plenty of parking, grassy, tree covered picnic/barbecue area also.

We will need group fishing license.

10-12 kayaks,

Yes Headwaters Redding is involved.

Nov. 8, 0900, fish/kayak for 3 -4 hours with lunch

There are 4 of us confirmed to be there, plus couple of our wives, imagine once it is set there will be other Redding/NCKA people who will step up.

Our idea is to hold an event now, even if small this time, to get the word out about HOW, find/meet people from VA and then plan annual larger events in the future.

Bryan

OK, does the lake have a name?  I need to identify it on the form and what county are you?

I have got the ear of some "high up" people in the VA and were going through trying to give the info they need to get approval…

Your info there helps, so your thinking about a dozen or so,  that sounds good,  getting over that becomes crowd control, especially for your first time doing this.

I expect they will get back to me tomorrow and we will have a better idea of what they (THE VA) will do.

it may just be they let us send them a flyer… which is nice, but it does not gives us control of who is coming or how many…

lets see what happens tomorrow...

Lake California, just got back, the board approved the event for Nov 8 or a later date depends on working out a couple details. Will send you a PM.

FYI, several people from the community volunteered to help out as needed.

Way to go Bryan, that's great! What does everyone think about the flyer route? I have a couple connections at the VA as well. Anyone have other options? We gotta get on it. Should we post a (we should call it Jefferson HOW :smt003) volunteer roster?

Couple things, I did tell them we would keep it fairly small, 25 people including volunteers, so thinking for our first Shasta/Tehama HOW event we should invite  8-12 veterans, plus anyone who assists them and volunteers from NCKA.

Need to show proof of insurance then which Don is helping with then we are on our way.

sounds great guys,

It's really hard unless your taking directly to the vets, to find out how many vets your going to get.  The VA usually has things tied up for months in advance, but, my feel in this, we don't give them any wiggle room,,,

meaning, we stick to the date, and TELL them this is the date…  with a flyer it's going to hard to control what happens participant wise.  If you leave it up to whomever gets the call in the VA, ya also never know what your going to get and usually just  turns int o a "cattle call"…

I say, get a flyer going, HOJO can get this going quickly once you have the details,,,  make a point of contact and that anyone wanting to participate has to call to RESERVE a spot.  Family and care givers, therapist are of course always welcome.  Being this is a Saturday, you probably will get lots of last minute volunteers and participants.

I just sent the insurance to Eastonkayaker and the waivers are up top the HOW topic on a sticky, there are two, release and media…

I'm in contact with some people now, and will pass this off to either easton and grim keeper once I nail down whom we need to talk to, I'm kind of getting the run around right now, but I'm used to this and we will get there..

feel free to contact any vet services of contacts you have, don't wait for me!!!  and I this lake is called

" California Lake.." ?  and what county…

I like the Jefferson HOW idea….   :smt002

copy that,

ya, we will need a group fishing permit for that one. I'm on it and sent National a request for the insurance rider for the property association.

Thanks for the info and will get the group fishing licenses out today, as soon as I find the proper Fish and Game office.
