It's here, just days away. Water's warm, sun shining, waves? should be average, and it's the biggest stand-up paddle board race in the world! You can drop your boards the night before in a secure area. Get out on the water and charge it, or just cruise it.
I'm doing the Open race, probably on an unlimited? Unlimited what? I'm still trying to figure that one out. I have lots of options, and no strategy. Thongs and the Beer Garden. The true race motivator!

It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

Going but still mulling over the open race, stock class.  3-4 foot surf according to Surfline.  Is that manageable?  Paddling for five years but I still struggle heading out through pretty much anything over 3 feet that's breaking.  I raced the open race in the surfboard class a couple times and have been training for a year on a 12'6" in open ocean but Creek still has me a little leery.

There's one sure fire way to find out......
I'm going to try, even though I have very little experience in surf on my 14' board.  I need a shirt that reads "For your safety please stay 14' from this kook at all times"

I’m racing a 14' in the 40-49 age group.  Hoping to improve on last year’s 39th place out of 45.  Judging from a tune-up race I did last weekend, it isn’t going to happen.

I'm present and ready, though I did something to my ankle today, but no matter, wouldn't miss it. I've done every year since the first. I'm probably doing the surfboard class for the sprint and unlimited (bullet 17) for distance. I was planning to use my starboard 12"2" x26" but I tried it at salt creek and it would have been slow. Hard to be fast when you're layinh next to your board. Fortunately the sic guys lent me one of their 11'11" surfboards that are based on the Ku nalu rocker but wider and thicker. Fast board, I'm loving it

All in the 60 plus group of course.

Incidentally, I thought over the zoner meetup and I think it's nuts to have it here at the condo. Sure it's pretty but there's going to bt SURF. Who in their right mind would leave skirt to go to some lame party. So let's do it Friday at dogpatch. Chris has a portable bbque and I'll bring some stuff lets just keep it informal like the Kernel planned I'm the first place
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

Wholeheartedly agree; everyone should bring some small snacks to Dogpatch and we'll make it a surf and turf.

Here are the details:

WHO:        Standupzoners, friends and family
WHAT:      Pre BOP "SUP Surf and Turf" party
WHERE:    Dogpatch section of San Onofre State Beach
WHEN:      Friday 3 October 2014, 3PM-whenever we collapse or they kick us out
WHY:        Swapping boards, checking out each other's gear, telling lies about our own SUP greatness, eating good food, enjoying the colorful company.

Other details:
1.  I'll put up some kind of hack Standupzone sign and try to cordon off a small area for us...
2.  I'll post these details again on a separate thread today or tomorrow....
3.  I'll bring some snacks and drinks, and Bill mentioned he's bringing the bar-b-que and SOME food.  However, with just that there probably won't be enough to feed a Roman legion; everyone should plan on bringing whatever they love and then a little extra to share.  That way, nobody gets burned buying food for a ton of people that don't show.
Kernel:  Cutting through the bull**it.
"This is the kernel of the argument."

Over 50, but usually pushing it like I'm 25 and paying for it later.

8'0 L41 Simsup
9'2" T. Patterson Rising Sun
9'2" Riviera Nugg Turbo Carbon
10' Riviera Machete

I would love to go, but can't stand the thought of SoCal crowds and parking, especially in a strange spot.  Somebody local would have to give me a room and a shower, and ferry me around to the events. I would be happy to pay the per diem going rates for motel and amenities for the consideration.

Someone should come up with a term for men who drink primarily water.

^^^oops, meant to post this on the "water" thread.

Cheat, I think you'd find more takers if you asked for a place to take a shower. No one on here's likely to give you a shower. ;)

Well, you got me there, a room WITH a shower.  Or a keel hauling.

I promise not to wear a thong.

I would also have to clear things with the spousal unit which might be formidable.

I,m currently in Kauai on a two week surf trip and get back Fri night, so I was planning on giving it a pass this year. But that wavestorm thread has me thinking. Since I don,t own a fast paddling board, I just might get a wavestorm and enter the 60+ surf class.

Really? you're going to miss an event people fly in from every corner of the world to participate in because you don't like traffic?

incidentally, I was talking to Kai Lenny a couple of nights ago about his new film  I wasinterested because  I kicked in a few bucks on kickstarter for it, He told me they're going to have the world premier showing of the movie on saturday night at the high school field in dana point. outdoors on a huge screen, free, and there's even freebie pu-pus.  it sounds like one hell of a fun movie. He said the idea of the movie is that when someone asks you about why you love SUP, you can say "watch this movie and you'll understand". Apparently they abandoned the documentary style most sup movies have employed. Im looking forward to it.
