Any of you Redding guys interested in fishing the Kapusta Open Space? I haven't fished before, someone told me there are giant LMB in the the ponds, looks like good topwater area, Sac River access also.

Thinking this would be a good late afternoon evening trip, throw my OK 11 in the ponds see what's there.

It's been awhile for me, and just from shore. Beenfishin is the guy to talk to.

Remember to practice safe knots, because big fish don't just break your line, they also break your heart.

Nope, no fish in Kapusta.  :smt002

Up until last year that place was lights out good, just about any day from March -October I could hit it and pull in a dozen fish over 3lbs with a sprinkling of 5's.  Word got out, the City of Redding lists it on their website and the place got hammered this year.  Luckily shore access is about zilch so they fish have room to escape, there are still some really nice ones hanging around but the fish are much more picky.  Buzzbaits and senkos with some Pro Cure Trophy Bass have never let me down.  I'm game for hitting it up one evening.  The wife currently has meetings 3 nights a week which has curtailed my availability, but that all wraps up this weekend and i'll be a free man again!  How does Monday evening sound?

I'm down. I am embarrassed to admit it, but I haven't had my yak in the water since Bryan and I had our septic paddle through Cow Creek :smt012

I'm getting the itch.

BTW, centimudi should be getting hot here real quick for surface trolling trout, not to mention the spot bite around JV!

I can meet you guys at Kapusta on Monday, what's a good time, will work around your schedule, my days are free.

JV - Jones Valley? Same guy that told me about Kapusta said there are some giant catfish at Jones Valley, have to eventually find those also, to many places to fish around here. :smt003

Sounds good, I'll firm things up this evening but likely able to get on the water about 5:30.
JV=Jones Valley, my favorite multi-species spot on Shasta, but the launch may be an issue.  Last i heard Jones Valley resort actually moved their entire marina/operation out to the 3rd launch and are charging a launch fee.  I'll make a few calls to see what the situation is.  As soon as the cool weather shift sticks the lake will turn over and bring up the shad, along with the predatory fish.  :smt001

Lil threadjack here but; don't sweat that "launch" fee. They actually call it a use fee for that "area". I'm down for paying when I actually launch a boat from a cleared ramp or use their restroom, but using a public road to drive on public property to unload my kayak on mud doesn't merit me handing SRC a ten dollar bill. Ask them to show you a map defining the "area" that one must pay to use. It doesn't exist, its public land. USFS confirmed this.

Sorry about the rant, but SRC fires me up!

Was out at JV last Wednesday, the ramp sucks. *don't step of the ramp or your fishing for your shoes in 3 foot of gumbo. If you happen to get there at a time without a lot of traffic you'll be ok, the ramp is one narrow lane and b/c of the mud you can barely find any place to tie up your yak while you park.  Once on the water the fishing was great though. Did really well with Carolina rigged worms in 20-30 feet of water.

I don't even know why I try to plan anything for the month of October.
Fish the first pond, left side off Latona.
