Seeing if there is interest in a hook-up on Sac river targeting, trout(steelhead), smallmouth and salmon.

Sept 19 or 20 (weekday is less busy on river but if enough of us go we can take on the boats in Barge Hole.

Float Balls Ferry to Barge Hole gravel bar. Taking the back roads (Jelly's Ferry Rd to Grover Rd) it is only about a 10-15 minute drive where we would exit water back up to vehicles, makes for easy shuttle. I usually take 4 - 6 hours to float/fish that area.

Fishing has been good for all three species, flow from Shasta lake is down to 6560 cfs current is very manageable.

A couple teasers for you:

Check out this site http://www.sacriverguide.com/fishing-report/

And see below picture, caught two nights ago above barge hole, 40"

I can't get any weekdays off right now (evenings are a possibility), but Saturday is no problem.  Sounds fun, I've been itching to get back onto some river action!

Ben,

How about it we make it Saturday the 20th at 0700, maybe it is enough time so others can plan and join us.  I have a Suburban and can shuttle at least 8 back up to pick up vehicles.

Anyone not familiar with the Sac river, barge hole area feel free to ask questions. I haven't been fishing here long but I now fish the river just about everyday, sometimes twice a day.

Bryan

I may be big, but that salmon would not go on my dinner plate.

Yes, it is an interesting debate that goes on around here, many of the locals keep those fish and have been for years and years, some people smoke them, most like to throw it right on a barbecue. I was with the guy that caught that fish, the meat was very fresh, he said he was going to smoke it.

I caught one a couple weeks ago, just started turning color but was excellent eating, no hook yet.

There are still lot of chrome fish being caught including a few steelhead recently, but understand the steelhead run is best in Oct/Nov.

Just saw your hookup post but won't be available those days  :smt012, I'll be ready to rock and roll the following week though.
Till then, tight lines,

Tim
Remember to practice safe knots, because big fish don't just break your line, they also break your heart.

Last time I kayaked bouncing a nightcrawler worked best, caught a couple trout, should also work for SMB.  This morning I waded in caught trout on gold flasher - with black/yellow body panther martin and on blue/silver castmaster 1/4 oz. I got some crickets for this evening will let you know how they work.

If you are into fly fishing cinnamon caddis also rubber legged bug has worked.

SMB - senko worms

Red beads are working well for salmon, also flatfish lures and roe. Talked to a guy this morning who has limited out on salmon the last three days, (talked to him while he was cleaning his fish he caught today on beads)

Bite is real good right now, imagine there will be a lot of boats at barge hole Saturday but we can avoid them.

One more note, flow is down to 6000 cfs, should be real slow float and we can paddle upstream when needed

Sounds good Tim, any time during the week or we make the trip up to Whiskeytown as we were discussing.

Sorry to say but I have to bail on Saturday.  Picked up a flu bug on the coast that has put me down for the count, I'll have to work this weekend to catch up.
