I know pics are worth 1000 words but, I forgot my phone today.

I had a crazy week at work and was physically sore. So I was not as up for exploring as I had hoped (And I only fished like, 2 hours this morning since I was so tired.)

I was in the SC Harbor up by the Lighthouse. Suddenly I started seeing millions, or billions of these little clear "goop" with two lines of white "balls" parallel to each other in it. The white balls were tiny, like the size of a period that's typed at the end of a sentence.

Once in a while, I'd see a thicker goop with a red ball inside the size of a pea. Anytime I cast my line and reeled it in, the goop would be all over my stuff.

Anyone able to clue me in on what this stuff is?

Thanks!

siphonophore

Hmm, they don't look quite like anything I saw on google image search. Some similarities but they really didn't seem like jellyfish... Not exactly anyway. I can't say I'd know though.

It was really odd to see. All the boats seemed to be following it around and trying to fish in it, for some reason.

The tide rips collect them, and bait too.  And bait collects ...

I assume this is what you were seeing.

It was really thick in a couple places out there yesterday--like pedaling thru molasses. What is it?
Please don't spoil my day, I'm miles away...

Salp looks pretty close but I didn't get the exact match. Their body type definitely sounds right, they felt like clear Jello. Jiggle and all. Man, wish I got a picture. Thanks all for trying to ID! I'll see if I can get a picture next time!
