Kayaker drowns Saturday in Navarre

The body of a Louisiana woman was found near the Navarre Causeway about 7:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

The victim was identified as 56-year-old Joetta Goss.

Fire and EMS crews recovered her body from Santa Rosa Sound near the Navarre Causeway. According to a release from the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office, she had not been wearing a life jacket.

Goss was last seen kayaking late Friday night and early Saturday morning, and a kayak was recovered near where her body was found.

Investigators think alcohol contributed to her drowning.

An autopsy was requested to be completed immediately.

Goss was vacationing with her family in Navarre from Louisiana.
