I turn my back light off unless of course I am fishing in the dark.

Yeah I'll definitely report back on this. I just weighed it & it came in at 1lb 5.5oz. That's close to 3lbs less than my 5ah SLA. That Zippy 5000mah looks pretty good for $37 at HobbyKing online though.

Anything to report? Ive been using the shorai 12ah (i believe) and it will no longer hold a charge. This is after 150 miles of use (not sure of the hours). I dont think it can handle the continual discharge depth.

So, looking for something that can power the elite 5 hdi for a full day. Anyone have good success with anything particular?

I'm doing fine with an 8AMH Panasonic sealed lead battery.  Turning down the screen brightness really lengthens the battery life.  A full day of fishing is no longer an issue.

I have a Raymarine Dragonfly 5 CHIRP, I was using a Cabela 12v 8amp and got at least 10 hours at full brightness.  My buddy uses a 12V 9Ah Sealed Lead Acid Deep Cycle Battery for his Lowrance 7 CHIRP.

So I switched to the same battery.  http://www.ebay.com/itm/171311050013?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
