I'm currently stuck along the river Dronne without any of My canoes. All I've seen so far in terms of canoe hire are those plasticky hire canoes or SOT's. Does anyone know of a canoe hire place with proper ( SMwhistle ) open canadian canoes.
Dont want to be seen in a lilo or such like!
Just trying to keep up standards :)
Somewhere along the Dronne, Vezere or Dordogne?
    Pretty please?

There's loads of hire companies on the Dordogne and most have dozens of Disco's along with SOT's etc, though they do tend to have the plastic seats. The hire company at Meyronne have some 'Apache' canoes that looked OK (not the same Apache as in UK) as well as Disco's. The river above and below Meyronne is IMO the best section. Much the same boats available on the Vezere. Some of the hire companies have strange standy up things, don't think they'll catch on though.

Careless of you to forget the canoe, Ingo ;)

This lot on the Vezere seem to have canoes as an option:

What you 'really' mean is you wouldn't last 100 metres in a modern boat without the back brace... SMinnocent

I don't mind. As long as I progress forward perfecting single blade paddle techniques instead of paddling my legs behind a lilo SMnono

I agree with Paul, not that I was looking but I saw canoes on that top section and also as low down as Gluges. Didn't particularly notice them at St Sozy but they must have at least been going past.

We did find a couple of Old Town canoes with this hire company
                          http://www.canoevezere.com/uk/
Went well as the 3 kids swam most of the way.
We did 12 km from Tursac to Thornac. Wouldn't do that stretch again but it was easy for our non-paddling french friends and their kids.
                          Thanks again
