I live in Vacaville and just recently picked up a yak (hobie outback)

I'm not new to kayaks fished out of one for years in Florida. I would like to get some tips for salmon fishing. Land based last year I slayed them in the feather.

This year I'm looking to up my game and get them closer to the salt. Been peddling round Benicia but looking to get a hookup anywhere with a Sammy closer to the salt. And help would be appreciated. Rigs, advice, tackle, etc...

Welcome!

Check out the salmon fishing article here on NCKA.

http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?page=7

It'll tell you most of what you need to know. Other than that, it's all about putting in the time and mileage. Lots and lots of it.

Are you comfortable kayaking in the ocean? Do you have all your safety gear (PFD, marine radio, compass at a minimum)? If so, you should try to tag along on one of the various salmon fishing hookups along the Marin coastline.

Good luck!!!

I'm good but never been in serious rough stuff. Hey if I can't hang I have no problem turning back. Although I'm sure a set of outriggers will make things a lot easier out there!
