    Hello,

I'm an L2 coach about to do my 4* kayak assesment. As soon as I've done that I want to work towards my 4* Canoe.
I have had a bit of advise and offer of trying quite a few craft from a local Coach/from an activities company. The obvious thing that everyone has pointed me to is Royalex but to be honest with and up and coming 10yr old freestyler wanting all the latest kit I don't think my budget will stretch to a royalex...lol. And I'd like to get something sooner rather than save for later!
So what do you surgest? I have an old Gatz Cherokee on ebay at the min so hopefully with the sale of that and a bit of cash could raise £550!

    Cheers

    Andy.

      Hello and Welcome!

Hmm, if it were just a stillwater canoe, I'd have suggested looking at Apache or similar, but as the 4* will involve a bit more canoe abuse, no doubt, I think you're stuck with something like a Venture or polythene Novacraft, second hand. The NC SP3 (Prospector) is heavy but a very good canoe. The Venture Prospector 15 or 16 would also work (or Ranger), though in my opinion the NC has the better hull shape. You might pick up other old Mobile Adventure models cheaply if you're lucky.

Failing that you need to persuade the 10 year old that good white water tandem canoeing is much cooler than freestyle, and buy a Royalex for both of you. Good luck with that! ;)

Hi, thanks very much for that, forgot to mention I'll be mostly running or trying to run grade 2 and 3....
And I think I've got more chance of knotting fog than persuading him to jump in a canoe.......lol

Thank you again. What's your thoughts on Mad river explorer 14 TT's?

Not paddled one, but I know others have taken them on whitewater. Tough as they come, again quite heavy. Quite a slow boat on stillwater.
