DELTA COUNTY, MI – Police are investigating how a Gladstone man got into the water and drowned last week while kayaking.

The incident took place when Michael Waeghe, 48, was kayaking with a friend in Little Bay de Noc near Brampton Township at about midnight going into Friday morning, according to the Michigan State Police Gladstone Post.

At some point, Waeghe went missing, said Detective Sgt. Jean Belanger.

The friend contacted police and the Gladstone Public Safety Department hovercraft was used to locate Waeghe later Friday night, she said.
