From Encinitas with Live Love SUP: Meet Cam the man in San Diego

Cam Trickey caught the SUP wave almost 7 years ago and keeps on paddling. He know it's not only great for your health, but also your mind. His passion and exuberance for the community is obvious when you meet him but when he tells you all the people he's helped, developed, mentored and guided, it is clear that he is a driving force to get things happening. A former pro Australian Rules Footballer, his life has continued in sport with his Coach Cam Fitness and as a health and wellness mentor. With a background in health and wellness its no surprise that he's also busy getting people into SUP. Enough from me, let me introduce our latest Live Love SUP Brand Ambassador, Cam Trickey from sunny So Cal.

Location
Cardiff, CA.

Favorite place
Definitely my local favorite is Cardiff reef. If we are talking further afield then Maui and Kuai.

What attracted you to SUP?
Great to do with family, intro to friends and make new ones. There's freedom out with no distractions or noise. Out there God's great creation. Seeing the sea life. Training and competitive nature gives me great joy to keep going further with the sport in race and surf.

Describe your first experience
This was in New Zealand at Omaha beach at my great mates wedding. It blew me away to see these guys what it appeared to be walking on water. I paddled a mile out and started struggling with it, but I couldn't get off. Got into trouble for being late to the rehearsal party. Arrived home and bought a 12 foot 35 pound board and put the kids on and it was my new sport. This was 8 years ago.

Why do you keep paddling?
I keep paddling cause the ocean keeps drawing back in to enjoy it and challenge it. Also to keep my kids and friends connected in the community and the ocean is a wonderful environment to meet and engage with new people and opportunities.

Where do you dream of paddling?
I dream of paddling the Great Barrier Reef in Australia and the Grand Canyon in the US. I have ambitions to also do some of the white water on the Nor Cal rivers.

How are you involved with your local SUP Community?
I'm involved in SUP community in many ways. Of course casually with family and friends and still do events and party's for first timers.

Paddle with Dad was an opportunity for kids to spend quality time in the water together. Away from life distractions, technology and noise. The ocean is the glue that brings us together. Friendships and relationships are formed and bonded. It was also fun because new breaks were discovered. People transitioned into SUP from other board types.

Often paddle with Wounded Warriors and vets in Del Mar. With wounded Warriors we met at the beach and met with the vets and built trust and then helped them down the beach, sometimes in wheelchairs and get them into the water. Sometimes it was the first time back in after rehab. It was amazing. The joy we got when they stood up was incredible. They have a rehab program that allows people to volunteer to help out. Yes, I still support and get involved with events.

I have been racing with TEAM CREED SUP for about 9 months. I have won several 3 mile races. Tucker my son won a relay/obstacle race against some pros. We competed against Laird Hamilton’s nephew who is a full time pro. It was very special. I have done several 12 mile racers down the Colorado river that took over 2 hours. Lake Havasu in Arizona recently was a 10 miler with the team where I won my division.

Wy are you excited about Live Love SUP?
Live Love SUP really appeals to me with the people behind it. Nick and Jen are a great couple with a real desire to help and reach the community  with awesome awareness projects and fund raisers. I am not limited to how or who I can help and encourage to get involved. I love their apparel line and their global vision but to connect with my local community. I like that I can get friends and new peeps on the water and help their lives and possible biz in a healthy way.

Welcome Cam to the Live Love SUP family. We are super excited to get involved in some of the projects that Cam is working on to support him as he shares his experience and time with others on the water.
