I was wondering if anyone has any experience or recommendations for campgrounds along the mendicino albion elk area. I am planning on going next month or two but will probably go on short notice depending on conditions. I know for fishing albion campground probably isthe best bet but i think my wife would like something more private with seperate spaces, trees, bushes ect. Im imagining without a reservation van damne or other state parks would be booked. Has anyone stayed at the mendicino campground or maybe schooners? Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated

I'd give state parks a chance, either Russian Gulch or Van Damme are nice and have a lot of spots. Caspar Campground has some non-rv spots tucked apart from the main campground too.

Mackerricher is the biggest state park up there, on the north side of Ft Bragg, just outside of town, pretty nice, might be worth a try.

Not sure if you are tent.camping or in rv. Pomo campground is not on the water, but in ft Bragg and only minutes to most good beach access.  Has trees and bushes in between each site which makes each spot feel private.  Great for rvs but same old for tent folks.
