Ive got my vacation in May and wanting to bass fish. Im thinking CL and taking my boat so I can take my gimp broinlaw too(he has an injured shoulder and cant paddle right now). What area should I look at to stay, launch and fish? May 8-9-10.

Try checking out Edgewater resort. We've camped & fished around there for a couple of our tourneys. The power boat ramp is a little tight but a lot of private ramps are just like that at CL. Another alternative is the State Park which is nearby & has a larger ramp.

My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

I would fish the south end. A much smaller part of the lake and quality fishing. Nice launch facilities at Redbud park in Clearlake. May is mostly post spawn...hit the docks with whatever you like or use live minnows. The catfish bite is in full swing in May as well if you are into that

I fish Clear Lake a lot what I can tell you is there are a few places to stay all around the lake. Clear Lake is some what run down kind of town but the fishing can be great. I like Lake Port when I go and I usually take my bass boat and kayak. With the boat I can cover the whole lake if I like and if the wind will allow it. That lake can get 4 or 5 ft waves at times. Why I like the north end is when the wind does blow you can get to rodman slough and not worry about the wind waves. What you need is a map of the lake and take a drive around it and you might find a good place to launch you yak. This lake will give up good bass most any ware you can cast.

Good luck
