I was planning on doing some fishing tomorrow in a few small sloughs right outside of  the turn basin in Stockton, but it may rain tomorrow.  If it's just raining should I be cool? If I see lighting should I head in? I've never been on the water in the rain and would greatly appreciate some feedback. Thanks ks

I fish in the rain a lot. Less traffic on the water!
But if there is lightning take cover.

Up to you and the conditions your willing to fish in.  :smt002  I'm gearing up for some rain fishing this weekend at Berry right now  :smt005  As far as lightning goes.... I'd head off the water.  After seeing what happens when a rod is struck by lightning...I never want that to happen to me!

I'm planning on doing some fishing tomorrow in some sloughs right off the turn basin in Stockton in the early morning. If it does start to rain what should I be concerned with? If I see lightning should I head right in? Any tips would be greatly appreciated as I've never fished from my kayak in the rain. Thanks in advance.

I fish in the rain all the time and sometimes all day long but when there is lightning I go in fast. I have not fished where you are planning on going but be safe.  :smt006

Rain is no big deal.
Lightening, on the other hand, is a huge deal.
Get off the water ASAP if lightening is near.

When I worked at Orlando Regional we had two patients flown into us one night, a guy and a girl, the guy was fishing, the girl was close to him.  The lighting hit his rod, went down the rod, through him, and zapped the crap out of her.  He died, she had had some serious internal injuries.

A friend of Jan's has been hit by lightning twice and walked away both times, and is now a proffesor in a college back east.  Go figure.

I had an old Willy's jeep in upstate n.y...was sitting in a bar getting drunk on a rained out work day when lightning hit the parking lot...my back to the picture window, before folks all yelled out ,I already knew in my minds eye, somehow-the lightning had hit on the roll bars of the jeep and lit the thing up....it sounded like a bomb went off x 10

it was so loud and the recoil/shock wave was so strong-I dont know how anyone could survive that kind of force
for anyone who has been near lightning when it hits they will know what I mean-it is beyond words how powerful the strike is

We would have lightning hit the fish & ice houses across the street from the chaldry I worked at in florida.  Yes, it is loud!  You can feel it!  Hard to describe, but you can feel the electricity in the air seconds before the strike.  I'd be in the rigging shop (old metal building) working on a boat & feel the electricity in the air followed by the strike just 10-20 yards away.  Not a good feeling!
