2014 Naish 14 LE 26 inch
« on: April 19, 2014, 06:52:31 PM »
Has anyone tried out the 2014 Naish 14 LE 26 inch board? It looks very good and possibly a great board for both flat water and downwinding.  If anyone
has one or has paddled one, let me know what you think of it.

I have one.. This was the first day that I paddled it.

And this was last week.

Still waiting to do a DWer on it.

DJ - how does it compare on the flat water run to your 2014 Glide ?  I am sure it was a little faster and but with less stability.  Keep me posted on how it performs
on a DWer.

We finally got good DW conditions yesterday and at first I was kicking myself that I didn't use the LE but as it turned out I'm glad that I didn't because the conditions got very difficult.. even for my 29" wide Glide.. so it would have been near impossible for me on my 26" wide LE.. The wind turned very offshore and with extreme gusts and lulls making very confused water at times.. I was so glad I was on my 29" Glide.. The LE is faster on flat water for sure mostly because of the reduced width and much lighter weight.. But it doesn't glide through the smooth water as nice as the Glide.. It seems to be very splashy and does the sprinkler thing that most modern DW race boards do.. I'm so used to paddling big boards around 30" wide (both 12'6" and 14' Glides) that whenever I paddle my LE it feels pretty wobbly.. Maybe I just need to paddle it more.. I will get it on a DWer soon and try and capture it's performance on film.

Thanks DJ - I know what  you mean by confused water.  A lot like paddling in a washing machine. A narrow board can be really tricky in those conditions.  Thanks for the info on flat water.  Looking forward to hear what you think of it for DWng.

DJ, Can't wait to hear what you think.  I have an older carbon 2011 Javelin and when the conditions are lined up, it is my favorite DW board for our local conditions. Fairly stable once in a glide and super quiet / fast when planing. Between glides, it often feels like it is in a sort of slow motion glide which makes catching the next bump much easier.

Downsides are obviously that it can be really tippy, particularly when route finding in side chop. However, I don't mind a swim or two.  It also is a bit harder than the glide to surf directionally. It just wants to go downhill. I'd hope that some of these issues have improved a bit with the newer LE.

Took it out in Puget Sound this AM and it was just epic. Orcas were out. It was ~25 mph and low tide so very little of the side chop which can make the Jav experience menacing. Just nice rolling bumps the whole way. The board was purring.
