I was in for my bi-monthly haircut, and my barber started in on a pseudo-intellectual racist rant.

Most, if not all of his arguments were based on a flawed premise, but I was hesitant to correct him as he had a pair of scissors around my neck.  I was fortunate that he took an intellectual tone when he was talking, so I could challenge his reasoning abstractly without calling him an idiot.  I ended up using some Jared Diamondesque arguments.

What would you do?

Start cutting your own hair.
I've cut my hair since 1991.... Saved thousands of bucks and don't have to listen to any racist BS.
Probably don't look as good as you but oh well.

On a serious note don't argue with a dude with sharp objects near your head. Find a new barber. 

Ok, so my barber immigrated from Japan to the states in the mid 60's. His racist notions seem largely derived from his observations of cultural economic/technologic states across the world.

His arguments were all structured similar to the following: Japan is more culturally advanced than is ethnic group X, thus it is self evident that Japanese are innately superior to ethnic group X. Am I deluding myself that I can reason with him by offering non-genetic possibilities to account for the intercultural development variance?

He gives a damn good haircut.

Interesting....  sounds like you handles it well.  could be the beginning of a new and interesting adventure.  Bring in a "hello kitty" doll and some illegal whale steaks with dolphin sliders to illustrate cultural superiority and an adherence to international norms...

I'd say find a gay dude to cut your hair. No chance of racism there, well not much. And you might get your shoulders rubbed for free if you flirt a little ..... And it will probably be a great looking haircut!
