A man who reportedly build a homemade raft made of wooden planks and launched it onto the Colorado River at Lee’s Ferry with his dog to run the Grand Canyon is allegedly missing.

According to CBS News, the man—identified by park officials in a news release as Thomas L. Robinson of Santa Fe, New Mexico—and his dog are reportedly missing after apparently taking a homemade wooden raft on the river that runs through the Grand Canyon in late April, the National Park Service said.

The park service reported that Robinson abandoned his vehicle at Lees Ferry in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, the customary put-in for whitewater rafting trips along the Colorado through the Grand Canyon.

“Robison’s vehicle was discovered on April 21 and it’s unknown when he parked it,” says Tom Martin of River Runners for Wilderness, a watchdog and conservation organization for the Grand Canyon’s Colorado River and its tributaries. “The Park Service doesn’t say where his raft was recovered, but their photo shows he had a life vest. It’s possible he was trying to cross the river, not go down the river. In the last five days, 17 river trips have launched at Lees Ferry. If he ever was, he is no longer sitting on the shore wanting to flag down a river trip. The weather in Northern Arizona is deteriorating today as back to back fronts arrive. I can only hope he and his Corgi are recovered soon.”

The park service added that Robinson attempted to float the river with his small dog on a makeshift raft constructed with a few long planks.

According to the parks service, a missing persons investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about Robinson or who may have seen him is asked to contact the Grand Canyon Dispatch Center. Robinson is described as a 5’10” White man with brown hair and hazel eyes. The dog is reportedly a white 11-year-old Welsh Corgi.
